“I’ll tell you, but can we get out of here first?” I don’t even recognize the weak-sounding voice that leaves me.
“Okay, let’s go. Should we stop and get some more beer. Are we going to need more alcohol for this?”
“No, I’ll be fine. Maybe a joint?” I laugh as we lean against a large tree trunk.
I look over at my bestie and smile. Thank fuck for her. Honestly, she’s the best. I know I’m in my own shit right now, but I can’t forget to ask her about Batman and what transpired thatshe’snow dressed inhist-shirt.
“Hey, do I need to call us an Uber?” I question as we stand together.
Moments pass in pure silence. I look at Lottie to make sure she heard me but she’s staring off into space.
“Hellooo, earth to Lottie. Girl, are you dickmatized already?”
Snapping to, she laughs while shaking her head. “Oh shit, sorry. No, I called us one right after you texted. Should be here any minute.” A huge smile spreads across her face as she adds, “You know what, I might be.”
The Uber pulls up shortly after, and the ride to her house is only 5 minutes. Lottie doesn’t press me for answers since we’re amongst unknown company. It’s a given we’ll wait to dish out all the deets when we’re home. Both of us just enjoy the quiet ride in our own little worlds.
We stumble up her long driveway with our arms intertwined for extra support. Thank goodness Ethel isn’t home to witness this debauchery. We look like complete trash staggering towards the house in our oversized men’s t-shirts and high heels.
After smoking an expertly rolled joint, thanks to yours truly, we collapse on the oversized bed in Lottie’s room. Making ourselves comfortable, we tear into our snacks.
“Mmm… I fucking love you…” I moan as I take another handful of popcorn.
“I know!” She shoots me a wink and shakes a bunch of M&M’s into her bowl. She then pours some of the popcorn into it as well. I am mortified as she proceeds to eat the combination in one go.
“That’s weird.” I scrunch my face as she continues to munch.
“I’m high as shit, and this is delicious.” She laughs as she rolls onto her back.
“So how was he?” I question, looking at the smile on her face, knowing damn well it was Batman who put it there.
“You want me to go first?” She lifts her eyebrow, giving me her best ‘I know what you’re doing’ smirk.
“Ugh, I’m not ready yet.” I sigh in defeat as I drop onto my side to face her.
She looks at me intently. “Are you sure, babe? I don’t want to go on about my night when I know how yours ended.”
Again, this is why I fucking love this girl. “No, I promise I’m okay. It’s not that it ended poorly… It’s just a lot more complicated than I was expecting.”
She sighs deeply and begins retelling the events of her time with Greyson. By the look on her face, I can tell it truly was something special. Good, I’m glad. This girl needs some positive attention in her life. Fuck knows everyone else in her life besides me blows.
I gasp as she tells me his reaction to Jonathan’s text. Hot damn! Next time I see Greyson, I’m going to give him a high five. The fact that her so-called ‘boyfriend’ bashed her for her costume makes my blood boil.
Jonathan’s a prick. She deserves so much more. I’m thankful “G”—as Lottie is now calling him—was there to tell her the truth. She’s absolutely stunning.
Unfortunately for her, the T-shirt was just a friendly gesture. Too bad, my girl could certainly use a release, even if she’ll never admit to it.
I roll onto my back as she continues her story. I can’t help my thoughts from wondering about Trent…

Walking out of one of the rooms at Masqued, one of the very rooms I swore I would never go in, with my head held high because dayum… That certainly was worth it.
The intrigue won out and I couldn’t say no to his request for a one-on-one when Cass approached me with it.
Thank you, curious brain, you got me into the best kind of trouble tonight.
The minute our eyes locked on each other earlier, I knew our paths were meant to align. I could feel this instant unexplainable connection.
