“The room is ready,” he says.

I tense as a part of me is waiting for the same thing that happened with Helen. Then Holly marches past the doctor and into the room he pointed at.

We follow her as surprise fills all our faces, including the doctor’s.

The doctor sets up for the ultrasound, and Holly nods her head like she has heard this all before.

It’s only minutes later when he starts the ultrasound and takes another minute to find the baby. Before I know it, a heartbeat fills the screen.

“Wow,” he murmurs.

“What’s wow?” Holly asks, sounding bored. Though I think she’s doing that to keep her anger in check.

“Wow, is that you are carrying twins,” he says, looking at her with a smile.

“Twins?” she whispers, shocked.

We all sit there stunned as the doctor finishes checking over the babies and takes some blood from Holly. She says she is already on prenatal vitamins, so he doesn’t prescribe any.

We all leave there in a daze with a picture of two babies in Holly’s hand. She stares down at it with tears filling her eyes.

“Two babies?” she whispers in shock.

“It’ll be okay,” Braxton says, and reaches an arm out to her, but she pulls back looking back at him with hurt and anger in her eyes.

“I hope you got what you needed,” she says, handing me a picture and walking out of there without another word.

I have no choice but to let her go because we fucked up.

We handled that all wrong.

We treated her like Helen, and Holly is nothing like her.

We fucked this up before we even had a real chance to start.

No one says anything as we get into our vehicle and head home.

We are going to have to make this right, but I have no idea where we will start.

Holly

The first place I stop is Kyla’s house. She smiles when she sees me, but her smile drops when she sees my face.

“What’s wrong, honey? After that phone call at lunch, I thought you would be busy all day,” she says, sitting me down on the recliner.

“It was fine until I told them I was pregnant, and they told me I had to go to the doctor to prove it to them. They pretty much didn’t believe me,” I choke out.

Kyla wraps her arms around me, and I sob everything I have in me.

These men just keep breaking me over and over again.

“And they believe you now?” she asks after I finally stop crying.

I shrug and pull away. “I don’t know. The doctor did the ultrasound and told us we are having twins. I yelled at them, and pretty much left after the appointment. They were pretty much treating me like I was Helen. I don’t know if they even believe the baby is theirs. We didn’t get to talking. I honestly didn’t want to talk to them.”

Kyla holds me as I break apart a second time.

“They just need time. Helen really did a number on them. It probably brought those same feelings back. Everything will work out,” a new voice says. I jump and turn around to see Grayson come into the room.
