It’s completely sealed.
I contacted the lawyer, and he told me that Bethany’s identity was kept safe. No names were exchanged.
It was a complete coincidence that Kyla had gotten Bethany’s heart.
I went over everything for days. I didn’t notice my relationship with everyone was at a breaking point.
“I’m sorry,” I croak out, blinking back the tears that form in my eyes.
“Fuck,” Asher curses and drops himself on a nearby chair.
“I honestly don’t know how we are going to fix this,” Ethan says lowly.
“I need to go somewhere,” I say, and get up and walk out the door ignoring my men’s questions behind me.
I get in my car, and I drive right to the cemetery.
I sit down beside Bethany’s grave for a few minutes before I say anything.
There’s a breeze that comes across my shoulders, and I swear that I can smell the perfume she used to wear.
A tear rolls down my cheek as I begin to speak. “Bethany, I know it has been a while since I have come by. We had met a new woman. Her name is Kyla, and she is kind, passionate, and she healed my soul. I was so broken after you died. Fuck, I still am. I didn’t think I could let a woman in, but then Kyla practically waltzes into our lives, and she became someone important to me. I fought her at first, but I fell in love with her so fast and so hard. I ended up hurting her, and I know it was because I was scared. What if I lost her too? What if I had that happiness again, and it was taken away from me? A part of me felt like I was betraying you, even though I know deep down that you only wanted us to be happy. I wish there was some way you could show me that everything will be okay.”
I stare off into the distance. Time passes me by as I watch the sky darken.
My phone rings some time later, and I look to see that it’s Ethan.
“Hi,” I say my voice low and gravelly.
“Where are you?” Ethan asks worried.
“With Bethany.”
There is silence on the other line before Ethan clears his throat and speaks.
“Come home, baby. We need to fix this together. Not apart.”
I nod my head even though he can’t see me.
“I’ll be right there.”
A stiff breeze blows through, and I swear that I can smell her perfume again.
“Together,” I whisper into the night.
Ethan
I pace the house, and Asher doesn’t take his eyes off of me. Two men I love had just walked out the door, for different reasons, but this situation has definitely got out of hand.
I look at Asher and his eyes are red-rimmed. He is looking like he’s trying not to cry.
“What do we do?” I whisper brokenly.
“We put our family back together,” he rasps.
“How do you suggest we go about doing that?” I ask sitting down on his lap, needing to be close to him.
“I think we need to give Grayson the night. He has a lot of anger and hurt, and he needs some time to cool off. Levi needs to clear his head, but he will be back later. Once he is, we will work everything out,” he says confidently.
