I haven’t let myself become close enough to anyone to form a romantic relationship. I still plan to take love one step at a time. Sometimes the scar on my chest holds me back from wanting to be naked with anyone, especially because the one guy I took my top of for recoiled when he saw my scar. I’m still young and have waited this long; why not wait for the right man to come along?
“Hey Jenny,” I say with a smile as I come to our desk.
“Kyla, thank god you’re here! There’s so much to get done. The owners will be here this morning,” she says, looking panicked.
I raise my hands. “Whoa, what’s with the face? I thought you said we didn’t work for assholes?” I say with a smile.
She shakes her head. “I know, but they are a few days early and they sent in a bunch of last-minute emails requesting things that need to get done today.”
I nod my head and listen to the list of things that we need to do. I make the coffees she has asked me to make for them, and then bring them to their personal conference room. They all have their offices on this floor, and a conference room at the end of the hall beside Jenny’s and my desk.
Everyone else works on the floors below since the owners like their privacy.
I place the coffees in the room and make sure that I have the right notes down in front of each of their specific spots (Jenny let me know who sits where) when I hear voices in the hall.
“Morning Jenny, looking more pregnant than when we saw you a month ago,” a deep male voice says.
“Well, if that isn’t a nice way to say I’ve gained more weight,” she chuckles softy.
“Now, Jenny, you look beautiful. Are you sure Tristan won’t let us have you?” another voice asks, lightly joking.
“Stop it now; your new secretary is in the conference room,” I can hear her say. Their voices get louder as they approach the conference room.
“Ahh that’s right. You finally hired someone to replace you,” another male voice says.
“She’s absolutely perfect. You guys will love her. If you don’t, tough. I only have a couple more weeks until this one is ready to come into this world,” she says like she’s trying to be stern.
I smile softly at the easy banter between them.
“Kyla!” Jenny says as she enters the room. I turn around and smile widely at my bosses.
“Hi,” I say politely, smiling nervously when no one speaks.
I watch as the four of them stare at me looking like they are in a daze before they clear themselves out of it.
“Ethan, Grayson, Levi, Asher; meet your new secretary,” Jenny says with a smile.
They all smile at me genuinely. I try not to stare at them, but they are four of the most handsome men I have ever met. They all seriously look like they are hiding some amazing bodies under their clothes. I mentally shake my head. Don’t think about their bodies. They are your bosses.
I smile at them, feeling a bit awkward since not one of them has spoken. They can’t seem to stop staring at me.
“Hi, I’m Kyla. I know that I don’t have that much experience, or any at all really, but Jenny has been teaching me a lot. I know that I will do my best to make sure your needs are met.” I mentally wince. Don’t say needs. Quit thinking about what else they might need.
If at all possible, three of them smirk at the same time. One of them, who Jenny said was Levi, doesn’t do anything but stare at me blankly. He’s built; that’s for sure. He’s got dark brown hair that he’s styled to perfection, and dark brown eyes. Even with the blank stare, he’s still hot as hell.
Levi sits down and doesn’t bother to say anything to me. “Shall we get to work? We have lots to do.” His voice sounds cold and detached. I’m wondering if there was something that I already did wrong but, when I look at Jenny, she just lightly shakes her head.
“Nice to meet you, Kyla. I’m Ethan,” one of the other men says as he holds his hand out to me. I shake it ignoring the spark that comes to me when our hands make contact. Ethan has sandy blonde hair and green eyes. He’s the smallest out of the bunch. He’s still built in a way that you can tell he goes to the gym but doesn’t live there. He has some delicious muscle definition.
Oddly enough, the same thing happens when I shake the hands of the other two. I wonder if it just happens to be because I never really found myself this attracted to anyone at first glance. Grayson has light brown hair and hazel eyes. I could honestly stare into them all day, but that might be a bit creepy. He’s got a strong jaw, and you can tell that he takes pride in his body. I’m half wondering why he isn’t modelling; it almost hurts to look at him. Asher has long black hair. I never really thought long hair would look good on a man, but he definitely pulls it off. Paired with his blue eyes and dimples, he would be the type to steal the hearts of many.
I shake my head at me getting lost in checking out my bosses, and we start the meeting.
All of the guys seemed to take their business seriously. They own some sort of software company, but you would never know by just glancing at them.
Levi gives me one-word answers and doesn’t bother giving me the time of day.
I can’t help but feel self-conscious about that. I haven’t done anything to warrant this kind of behaviour, but I know better than to say anything about it on the first day that I met them.
