“This is Dom. What can I do for you, Noel?” Dom asks.

Who the hell is Noel? The town mechanic?

Noel clears his throat. “Yeah, Dom, I’m going to need you to come into town.”

Galen must need Dom to pick up him up.

Dom blinks, but his calm expression never changes. “Something is wrong.”

How the hell did he guessthat?

“It’s Galen,” the man says.

I hold my breath. Something happened. Noel is calling to say Galen got in a car accident and he’s dead.

The world sways, and my vision goes hazy.

Dom reaches out and grips my arm as if he can tell I’m about a second away from falling apart.

“What happened?” Dom’s voice is still steady, and I cling to his calmness, hoping it will give me the strength to get through the next ten minutes.

Out of the corner of my eye, I spot the rest of the pack moving closer.

“Melissa and I found his truck parked behind the jewelry store,” Noel continues.

Why would Galen be… oh. My broken chain. He said he was going to get it fixed.

“Was he in an accident?” I mouth to Dom.

“Tell me what else you found,” Dom says, his hand tightening on my arm.

“Blood. We found the front seat of his truck covered with blood.”
