My stomach tightens and arousal spikes in my gut.

I have to kiss her. Now.

My lips graze hers, and her breath wheezes out, sweet and faintly fruity from her tea. Angling my head as her hands settle lightly on my hips, I touch my mouth to hers.

A second later, a branch cracks in the direction we came from.

I jerk my head from hers, turning to peer through the forest.

“What?” Briar whispers, sounding surprisingly breathless considering we barely kissed at all.

“I heard something,” I say as I continue to sweep the forest for signs of pursuit.

“Wolf?”

“Maybe. Let’s go.” Taking a step back, I pull my hand from her silken hair and grab her palm before tugging.

“What happened to throwing me over your shoulder?” she mutters as I pick up the pace. I’m not moving as fast as I was before, since I doubt Briar could keep up.

I glance over at her as she jogs. My gaze dips as I’m suddenly made all too aware that she’s not wearing a bra beneath her dress.

Running suddenly becomes downright uncomfortable.

“Keane?” Briar prompts.

I look away from her before I can do something I regret. “It can’t have been comfortable for you,” I say.

She snorts. “When did you start caring about my comfort?”

Good question.

And it’s one I don’t have an answer to, so I peer over my shoulder, still seeing no sign of pursuit or hearing any more twigs breaking.

“Keane?”

“We’ll talk about it later,” I lie.

“But—” Briar stumbles, pulling on my arm.

I jerk my head toward her, and then wish I hadn’t.

She’s tugged the nearly floor-length dress to just above her knees, which I’m guessing was the reason for the stumbling.

My pants get even tighter as I take in her long, shapely legs. Not slender, but gently curved and—

“Keane, you’re staring.”

I stop.

There could still be someone following, but right now, none of that matters. Only one thing does.

I look away from her long enough to scan the forest. Spotting a small wooden structure in the distance, I scoop Briar into my arms and jog toward it.

“Uh, Keane?”

I don’t respond, just continue toward the building. Once I’ve stepped inside, I nudge the door of the cabin identical to the one we left behind closed and set Briar on her feet before backing her against the door.

“You have to tell me who you were dreaming about.”
