He stares down at me without speaking for several seconds. And as he does, it gets harder and harder to hide my smile from him.
One corner of my lip twitches.
Relief flashes across his eyes before he sets his muffin on the counter, grips my hips, and then shakes me. “Tell me.”
Resolutely, I shake my head. “No. Your dad told me you deserved a little payback for giving him gray hair.”
Growling, he lifts me and sets me on the counter. “He said what?”
“You heard me.”
Stepping between my thighs, he slides a hand around my nape. “What else did he tell you?”
“That maybe you might have feelings for me.”
“And?” He lowers his head to mine.
“That he knew I had feelings for you.”
He pauses, his eyes searching mine. “Feelings like what?”
“Feelings that begin withland end withe,” I whisper.
For a long moment, he doesn’t say a word, just regards me with eyes wide with wonder. “I don’t deserve you.”
I shoot him a quick grin. “Probably not. Especially not after you kidnapped me.”
A smile draws up the corners of his lips. “Oh, but you getting stuck in the window gave me a sight I will never forget.”
A blush sears my skin as I look away. “Jeez, don’t remind me.”
His fingers grip my chin and draw my gaze right back to his. “Briar Fenix, I think you have just about the sexiest ass in the world.”
My blush intensifies as his smile grows. “Shut up. You’re just saying that because—”
“I love you?” he interrupts.
I’m suddenly breathless. Hearing him say it the first time two weeks ago when he pulled me out from under the car I was working on nearly gave me a heart attack. It didn’t feel real then, but now?
Looking him right in the eye, it does.
“You think so?” I ask. “I mean about the love you, not about my ass,” I add quickly.
Grinning he lowers his head. “Both. I mean both. And if you ever decide you want to go crawling out of windows…” he murmurs.
I go breathless with anticipation. “What?
His lips hover over mine. “Don’t. Unless I’m there.”
And then he kisses me.
A second later, I pull away before this kiss can turn into a lengthy one that will mean I don’t get back to work for at least thirty minutes. “What’s going to happen with Bodie and Sera? And where are we going to live? I mean, you’re still a wolf, and I’m—”
“A being so powerful that no one would dare say no to you. I’m sure Bodie and Sera will appreciate us finding a place of our own. Maybe we could build a cabin in the forest.”
I raise an eyebrow. “With what money?”
“With the goodbye gift that Liam left behind. He signed the wolf businesses over to me, since he won’t be back. With all of your aunt’s destruction, he got a payout from the insurance, and he handed me a big chunk of the cash since we got revenge for him. We’re not rich, but we have enough to build a place of our own.”
