“I’m sorry, Dean,” he says, voice wet.
“Why are you apologizing?”
“Because!” He throws his arms up in frustration. “This is exactly why I said this wasn’t going to work. A few hours, and I already have to go! We didn’t even get to finish breakfast. How can we ever make this work?”
Clearly, we haven’t talked through enough of his barriers. The first little hiccup with an unexpected call, and he’s waiting for me to throw in the towel.
Not a chance.
I meant every word last night, and as his Daddy, it’s time to prove I know best.
“Tanner, look at me,” I command. He’s lost steam, but there’s still a protective wall building up around him. Wrapping his arms around his middle, Tanner takes a few breaths before his eyes track slowly from the floor to my chest before landing near my shoulder.
Close enough.
“We both agreed to work through your demanding and unpredictable schedule, did we not?”
He whips his surprised eyes to mine. “Um, yes,” he answers after a beat.
“And while breakfast was interrupted, we agreed to one meal per week. So far, we’ve had half a day together, which means we haven’t failed because we haven’t truly started.”
“I guess. Maybe.”
“There is no reason you should apologize for having to leave for a case, especially because we’ve already discussed this, correct?”
“But—”
“Yes or no,” I cut in.
“Yes.”
“Good boy.” He preens a bit under the praise. “Now, it sounds like you don’t have much time to get ready. I need you to head back to your bedroom and get dressed while I clean up the kitchen and pack you a quick lunch.”
“But, Dean—”
“It’s Daddy,” I scold. “And unless you plan to use your safeword, we will continue with our morning by preparing you for work.”
I count a good fourteen heartbeats before Tanner so much as blinks. “You’re serious?”
“Deadly,” I say.
“I’m going to get dressed, and you-you’re going to pack me a lunch so I can leave for work?” His voice tilts slightly, raising the recap into a question. “And you’re not mad? You still want to be my Daddy?”
Seeing an opening, I lunge for my boy, wrapping him in my arms and lifting him until his legs are forced to circle my waist. At this level, there’s nowhere for Tanner to hide from me. Pressing my forehead against his, I stare directly into his blue eyes.
“I’m not angry or upset. I have no reason to be. The only thing that phone call has done is make me take a look at the day and reshuffle our plans a bit. Instead of working through your schedule now, we’ll do that when you’re finished with your case and notes. Everything else is exactly as it should be.”
“H-how?”
“You slept like a rock for more than a couple of hours, you have a real meal in your belly, and you will have a hearty lunch since you don’t have to think about anything except getting dressed.” I smile at him. “Sounds to me like I’m still Daddy.”
“Daddy,” he breathes. Tanner wiggles in my arms, his hardening cock pressing into me.
Huh. Guess my baby bat likes stern Daddy. This I can work with.
Sliding my hands to cup his ass, I squeeze once, eliciting a moan from Tanner. His face falls forward, burying into my neck. I feel him mouth over my skin, something between a kiss and a sucking motion, while he rocks against me. I allow it for a minute, then halt him, earning a whiny protest.
“I’m certain we don’t have time for that, sweetheart.”
