“Here we go! Already starting with the fucking dictatorship!” Jack snarled. He jumped out of his seat and walked toward the door.

“Jack?” Nia called. Jack turned on his heel and crossed his arms.

“What?”

“You don’t get to walk out of here without hearing what the King has to say. This meeting is more than we ever received from his father and we have the chance to be a part of the way the future of the Kingdom will be shaped.”

Jack narrowed his eyes, his face starting to turn bright red. “No. Dissolve the monarchy. That’s the onlyfuturefor this Kingdom.”

He turned on his heel and stomped out of the room. I turned to Nia, Alan, and Terry. They all looked exhausted with how everything was progressing. I sighed, standing up slowly. “Alright, I want everyone around here to understand one thing about the future of this kingdom - we will always hear out its people. We aren’t going to have the same type of kingdom my father ran. The creation of a council of advisors who are nominated and chosen by the public. We’re putting this in place to keep the monarchy in check. They will have the power to veto some of the laws that are put in place. The details are still being figured out, but we’re going to include the rebels in on the process, along with other key members of our current pack. Now, why don’t we reconvene for this meeting at a later date? It’s obvious everyone is exhausted and emotions are running high.”

Nia gave me a smile and everyone walked out of the room. Lily came to stand next to me, wrapping her arms around my waist and kissing my cheek. I wrapped my arms around her shoulders and pulled her in closer. I kissed the top of her head.

“Things are getting so difficult already,” She said, her voice sad and soft.

I sighed, stress starting to creep in, my wolf getting aggravated. I closed my eyes, hating how chaotic I felt. Jason squeezed my shoulders. He kissed the top of my head again when there was a knock on the door. I looked up, watching Dean answer it and speak softly to the person standing on the other side. I pulled away from Jason slightly, tensing in anticipation of the next thing we had to deal with.

“Jason, they’re here,” Dean said, turning around and addressing Jason.

I frowned, turning to look up at him. He raised an eyebrow. “Who we talking about?”

“The request you issued earlier,” Dean responded. I snorted, sure that Jason was going to call him out for his vagueness. I turned to Jason, but he brightened, looking excited.

“Perfect. Please send them to the dining room. We will be there shortly,” Jason responded. I frowned, confused about what was happening. Dean turned to address the person at the door and I turned to Jason. “Who are you talking about?”

“It’s a surprise for you.”

“For me? Which room are they going to be put in?”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean technically, you are now in the main room at the end of the hallway. The room that was your parents is now yours because you’re the Alpha now. You’re King.”

Jason blinked, looking surprised. “Dean!”

Dean turned around, looking at him expectantly. “Put them in my original room. We’re keeping the original room arrangements. I’m not kicking my mother out of her room.”

Dean opened his mouth, looking a bit uncomfortable. “You…uh, have already been moved into the new room. It’s standard procedure.” Jason groaned, tilting his head back, rubbing a hand over his eyes.

“Alright, put them there. We’ll be there soon.”

“Put who where, Jason?” I questioned again. He smirked down at me and shook his head. I pouted, crossing my arms. Dean walked out of the room, so I turned to Jason, ready to wear him down and get the answers I wanted. He held up a hand right when I opened my mouth.

“Lily, please. Let me do this surprise for you. Please? I swear, you’ll find out what it is momentarily. Just go along with it. It’s a good thing.” He said. I sighed and he smirked, knowing I was giving in. We walked toward the door, taking slow steps. He let a few low groans out, obviously in pain as we moved.

We made it to the door and it was opened by Dean who had the wheelchair waiting. Jason released a measured breath, obviously annoyed about getting the chair, but willingly getting into it without arguing. I was grateful he did it, so I didn’t say anything about how much I hated surprises.

We walked down the hallways in silence, making our way to the Royal family rooms. We turned right and walked to the end of the hallway, Simon standing at the front of the doors. I raised an eyebrow, wondering why he was posting up there. “Simon, thanks for keeping them safe. We’re going to be here for a while, so please make sure we aren’t disturbed.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

Simon swung the door open and waved us in. Dean and Jason motioned me forward. I frowned, glancing all around, and moved forward. My heart beat erratically and my wolf went on high alert. I walked through the doorway and froze, staring at the people sitting on the couch in front of me.

My heart went into overdrive and my eyes filled with tears, making the image in front of me blurry and hard to see. I quickly wiped my eyes clear and took in every ounce of detail I could.
