“How much longer until we can sneak away?” she murmured softly.

Beynon offered a grin. “I’m glad you asked.” Taking her hand in his, he led her back through the barn and out to a side yard where a small wagon had been hitched to a horse. Grasping her waist in his hands, he lifted her up to the seat then hopped up beside her.

“What are you doing?” she asked with a short laugh of surprise.

Taking up the reins, Beynon gave a flick of his wrists and they started off. “I’m taking you away.”

“What? Where?”

He slid her a heated sideways glance. “Our cottage.”

“The cottage in the village? But I canceled my lease as soon as I left.”

“And I renewed it.” When she blinked in stunned confusion, he explained, “I thought it’d be nice to have a place we could go every now and then...just the two of us. Consider this a honeymoon of sorts.”

Her eyes were wide. “But there will be so much to do after the celebration.”

Beynon laughed. “I’ve already talked to Mam. She and the children will manage. The next several days are ours. No sheep, no children, no chores.” The dark, heated look he gave her brought an instant flare of desire to her gaze. “Just us. Just pleasure.”

Her reply was husky and breathless. “That sounds nice.”

“Nice?” Beynon grunted. Dropping the reins, he scooped Anne up from her seat and lifted her onto his lap.

“Beynon, the horse!”

“Knows the way,” he finished gruffly. Dragging her skirts up to her lap, he palmed the back of her thigh and gave a rough squeeze. “You, however, seem to have forgotten something. My love for you is infinite. My devotion, unquestionable.” His voice dropped to a possessive growl. “But there is nothing even remotely nice about my passion for you.”

Her lashes fluttered as her breath left her lips in a sigh. But when he slid his hand between her thighs to palm her heated core, the sigh turned swiftly to a weighted moan. With a roll of her hips, she pressed herself more firmly to his hand. Then she leaned toward him to press a trail of sweet kisses in the hollow beneath his jaw.

“You’re right, husband. I might be in need of a steady dose of reminders.”

Her tongue flicked against his pulse and a gravelly groan rose from his throat. He lifted a hand to cup her nape, tilting her face to his. The swirl of love and desire in her gorgeous gaze made his chest tighten with wonder and emotion.

“I’m yours, blodyn,” he murmured thickly. “Have been from the moment I first saw you.”

Looking deeply into his eyes, she whispered in perfect Welsh, “Dwi’n caru ti.”

Contentment flowed through every vein as he brushed his lips over hers. “And I love you.”
