“I spent years with the wrong guy, so I had no clue either.” She pulled back to look up at him. “Is it weird to be slightly glad that things with him blew up so I could find this?”
“We’re not even slightly glad that you got hurt so badly, but the rest I’m down with.” He tipped her chin up to receive a kiss that started off slow and sweet and quickly became about the desire that had been simmering between them for weeks. “Gigi…”
She pressed her curvy, sexy body against him. “Yes, Cameron?”
“I, uh, forgot what I was going to say.”
He loved the sound of her laughter, the way her dark eyes lit up with mirth, how her smile left a deep groove on the right side of her face. He loved everything about her. “I should’ve been looking into your gorgeous eyes the first time I told you I love you. It shouldn’t have happened that way.”
“I’ll never forget the first time I heard you say it—or the second. Do we need to talk about what she said?”
“Nope. She’s not pregnant.”
“How do you know?”
“She’s got a ‘life plan’ that she sticks to faithfully, and that includes no kids for another five years and long-term birth control.”
“Is it possible she tricked you somehow?”
“I haven’t done anything with her in months. She’d be showing by now if she was pregnant by me. And that’s enough about her.” Cameron smoothed his hands down her back to cup her ass, lifting her into his arms, planning to take her straight to bed, until Jeffrey whined, reminding Cam that he hadn’t been outside yet. “Damn it. That was gonna be so smooth, too.” He set Gigi down as she laughed.
“It’ll keep.”
He clipped the leash on Jeffrey, and after taking a good look around to be sure Jaycee was gone, he walked him outside, hoping the dog wouldn’t have to sniff every bush in the complex before he peed. Thankfully, Jeffrey was cooperative, taking care of business in a matter of seconds and heading for the stairs, eager to get back to his new favorite person.
They found Gigi curled up on the sofa, waiting for them.
Jeffrey bounded toward her, full of excitement, as if he hadn’t seen her in a year.
Cameron understood how he felt. He sat next to her and laughed when Jeffrey planted a wet kiss on her face. “He loves you as much as I do.” It was freeing to finally be able to give voice to feelings that’d been almost painful to contain.
“I love him, too.”
“Jeffy, that’s enough,” Cameron said. “Go lie down. Go on. My turn.”
The dog gave him a hurt look but did as he was told.
“Phew, I thought I was gonna have to fight him for you.”
“There’s enough of me to go around.”
Smiling, he kissed her and lost himself in her enthusiastic response. He ended up on top of her, which gave him pause.
She stopped him when he tried to move to the side. “I’m fine, Cam. Don’t treat me like I might break. I won’t.”
“Promise?”
“I promise.” She drew him into another kiss, her hands sliding under his shirt making him shiver from her touch. “Take this off.”
He sat back to remove his shirt and then reached for her sweater.
Gigi helped him remove it.
They’d done this much before, but anything else would be new. As he gazed at her lush breasts contained by a lacy bra, the angry red incision on her abdomen was a reminder to go easy, to take it slow, to treat her with the reverence she deserved. He released the front clasp on her bra and pushed the cups aside to reveal the full breasts that had fired his fantasies for weeks now. Her dark nipples stood at full attention, and as he bent his head to touch his tongue to one and then the other, he decided this was shaping up to be the best night of his life.
Gigi had never experienced the kind of desire she felt for Cameron. Over the last few weeks, it had built between them to the point that it was nearly painful to think about him without wanting him this way. Hearing him say he loved her like he’d never loved anyone—even if he was saying that to his ex—was the best thing she’d ever heard from anyone. Not that she was surprised to hear he loved her. He’d been demonstrating that to her every day since she’d been badly hurt by her ex-boyfriend.
As she’d recovered from her injuries, Cam had been nothing but patient, kind and devoted. They’d spent hours kissing and touching each other until she’d felt like she’d die if she had to wait any longer for what they both wanted.
