Damn it. Michael and his men almost killed me!
He took a deep breath and finally sat down beside me. He caressed my back and let me rest on his shoulder. I felt safe and at ease in his arms again for a moment. I closed my eyes and felt contented in his presence. That time, I didn’t let myself think about anything else or overthink my feelings for him. I just want to savor the moment that we have right now.
But then that was cut when Darius came and called him. I immediately pulled away from the hug. Darius raised a brow and gave us a meaningful look.
I just bit my lip and looked away while watching their disappearing figure.
I guess they have to talk about something important.
Just a few seconds after they left, Leila went back to the room again. She creased her forehead while crossing her arms.
“What?” I asked her.
She shrugged, which made me roll my eyes. “Leila, what happened after? Where are the rogues? Michael? Did he get away?” I asked worriedly.
“When you were injured, Lucas got very angry, and because of that, he managed to kill all the rogues,” my eyes widened.
“What?!”
It was Leila’s turn to roll her eyes at me.
“It’s true, Celine. He went berserk. He even almost killed Michael when he saw him looking at you lying on that ground. If not because of Darius, he might have killed Michael already. He was so worried about you, Celine.”
I was speechless. I looked down and tried to process everything. I was about to say something again when Lucas came back.
“I’ll take you to the mansion, Celine. You will stay there until you are fully healed. I’ll be taking care of you,” he said, and without minding the people around us, he kissed me on the forehead, which made my heart skip a bit.
Chapter Forty-Four
I still couldn’t believe what was happening. It still hasn’t sunk into my brain. Alpha Lucas was bringing me to the guest room on the second floor, and he said that he would be the one to take care of me. Shit!
“Is everything here already?” I heard him asking the omegas who helped to transfer here.
I pursed my lips and just kept my head down. All my clothes and things were brought here. I was just so speechless with everything that’s happening right now. My fellow omegas also seemed to be a bit stunned by the drastic turn of events.
I mean, who would even expect that the Alpha himself would volunteer to personally take care of me. Never in my wildest dreams did I think of getting this close to the Alpha of the Blood Moon. Everything just feels so surreal that it’s hard for me to process it all.
“Just make sure that everything she needs is all here already, okay?” he instructed again.
“Yes, Alpha,” the omegas said in unison. I still didn’t speak. I kept my head looking at the bed, just leaning on the headboard while both my hands were clasped.
I just pretended to play with my fingers as I tried to endure the hint of awkwardness that I was feeling. It’s hard not to feel this way, especially when my fellow omegas give me those curious looks every now and then.
Why did I suddenly become the center of attention?
I was in the middle of examining my nails when I suddenly felt the approaching presence of Alpha Lucas. My heart immediately thumped wildly just by the sound of his footsteps.
Shit, what’s wrong with me?
I pretended not to see him coming as he stood beside my bed, I thought he was just going to check on me, but my eyes widened in surprise when he suddenly sat on an empty space on the bed. My heart pounded like a wild drum as he inched his face toward me, staring at me intently while my eyes remained on my hands.
Damn it. I feel like my heart is about to explore. Why is he so near?
My heart was in the middle of somersaulting when he suddenly draped his arm around my shoulder, casually pulling me closer to him.
I heard some of my fellow omegas gasp. My eyes darted at them, but they immediately cleared their throat and averted their eyes as if nothing had happened.
“Are you okay?” he asked in a husky voice.
