I bit my nails as I waited for them to talk again, but nothing came. Damn it. They already stopped talking just when I was about to get important information. Damn it! I waited for a few more seconds, but still, nothing came. So I impulsively went out of the window and marched towards them.
“What happened in the ambush?” I asked directly, which made them startled.
“Celine!” they said in unison. The shock was evident in their faces.
“What is it?” I asked, demanding an answer.
Both of them exchanged glances. I clenched my jaw and looked at them intently. They were so hesitant, but I eyed them intensely and saw them tremble before my presence.
The man on the left sighed in defeat. He was still hesitating if he could say anything. The man on the right then nodded. A small hope rose in my heart.
“W-What is it then?” I asked once more,
“Crest Moon was the one who initiated the ambush. They didn’t want Blood Moon to interfere with the abuses and cruelty that they were doing towards the weak packs. They wanted domination over the werewolves, and those who did not submit to them were killed. They were also aiming for gold and the wealth of other packs. They wanted to rule over the whole werewolf realm, but Blood Moon stepped forward to stop them, and that was why we were ambushed that night.”
Chapter Thirty-Eight
“What?” was all I could say upon hearing that information.
Both of them looked at each other again before slowly nodding in unison. I gasped in disbelief. I couldn’t say anything. I felt like I bit my tongue out in shock.
The guy on the left heaved a sigh again. “That’s the truth, Celine. That’s also the reason that most of us in the pack are very eager to fight your previous pack,” he said. I saw the other guy avoiding his gaze. I still couldn’t believe it. I was too stunned to even talk. Oh my god. I have been fed with lies all through my life!
And if what they said were true, if Crest Moon did initiate the ambush and the whole pack lied to me about it, then is it possible that they may be lying about how my father died, too? There’s a high possibility that the Crest Moon pack lied to me about my father’s death.
Damn it!
I covered my mouth with my hand and looked at the two of them. My eyes suddenly sting because of the tears that are threatening to fall from my eyes.
“C-Celine, are you okay?” they asked, almost in unison. They tried to approach me, but I put my hand in front of them.
“Stop,” I said as I took a step backward. My breathing became ragged as realization rushed through my head. This revelation is too much for me.
“Celine - “
I didn’t let them finish, and I immediately turned my back before running away from them.
Shit. The Crest Moon pack has made a fool out of me for the past years.
I briskly slid to my room’s window again before slamming it close. My knees wobbled, and I fell to the cold floor of my room as the tears in my eyes started to fall like waterfalls. I still couldn’t believe it. The Crest Moon was the bad guy all along.
Why did they have to lie about my father’s death? Don’t I deserve to know the truth, at least? I was trembling hard when I got the strength to stand straight. I walked back to my bed and hugged my pillow tightly as I tried to recall what had happened the day before the ambush. That was the last time that I saw my father. Fuck. Now that I remember it, I suddenly felt his hug again…his last hug for me before he went into battle.
Shit. I clenched my fists and began to sob. I opened my eyes and looked at the window where I could see the moon shining brightly.
Oh, Moon Goddess, please enlighten me with everything. Please help me clear everything. Help me to discover what really happened to my father. I’m begging you…

I didn’t know what time I was able to sleep last night. I think I slept from crying my heart out. I was just woken up by Leila the next morning, and when I looked at myself in the mirror, my eyes were so puffy, and my cheeks were so red.
“What happened to you?” Leila asked. She was leaning against the kitchen doorway, her arms crossed on her chest, while I was making the Alpha’s breakfast together with some omega. I felt her stare at me.
I didn’t reply immediately. Instead, I moved fast and prepared the ingredients. I cleared my throat. “Nothing happened, Leila,” I said in a small voice. I heard her scoff.
“Oh really? Who are you fooling, Celine? Your face is swollen. Did you cry?” she probed more. I was startled. I felt like I was glued to the floor. Then I heard her footsteps walking toward me.
I took a deep breath when I felt her presence beside me already.
