I couldn’t help but wonder why they chose me to go with them and why they didn’t invite the other pack warriors. I mean, usually, when they go hunting, they would have a lot of warriors, so they would be able to get a lot. I wanted to ask why we didn’t have any warriors with us, but before I could even ask, both of them vanished in thin air. My eyes widened, and I cursed loudly before I sprinted to look for them.
I was panting when I reached the middle of the forest.
Where the hell are they?!
I scanned the whole place, but all I could see were the trees and the grass. Shit. I bit my lip and strengthened my senses until I heard some rustling from the left. I quickly looked in that direction, concentrating as I felt the presence of nature around me. I tightly clenched my jaw when I felt a movement behind me.
My head darted in that direction, but I didn’t see anyone. I breathed deeply as my eyes wandered around me, sensing every little change in my surrounding… trying to detect any presence. That’s when I felt another movement on my side.
“Watch out,”Lucas mindlinked. My eyes widened even more. I saw the movement again. It was so fast that I hadn't even aimed my arrow; it was gone already.
Damn it.
I watched it again. This time, I was following the pattern. I narrowed my eyes and waited for it to pass in front of me. I released the arrow when I heard it running towards me. At that time, I was right. My arrow hit it the moment it passed in front of me.
A long wail filled the forest. My arrow stopped it, and it revealed a big white wolf. My mouth dropped as I looked at the wolf whimpering in pain. I hit its leg. Shit. Slowly, it went back to its human form, and a naked woman was before my eyes. I was so shocked that I wasn’t able to move.
“Nice catch!” Beta Darius appeared and went to the she-wolf. Then he looked at me. “You caught a spy,” he smirked.
I gasped and looked at the woman in disbelief. Darius picked her up, and I was about to go to them when a hand draped around my waist in a flash and stopped me from moving.
Goosebumps covered my arm when I felt him lean forward and graze the tip of his nose against my neck. My heart stopped beating for a moment before it started beating three times faster.
Cinna whimpered; at the same time, an involuntary moan escaped my lips.
“Hmmm…”
He sniffed the skin at the base of my neck as if my scent felt like heaven to him, instantly sending shivers down my spine. The butterflies in my stomach grew wild as heat traveled from my neck to the rest of my body.
“I could definitely get used to this,” he whispered against my ear, in a voice full of raw emotion.
Chapter Thirty-Five
I wasn’t able to move. My whole body stiffened when I felt his hot breath on my nape. I blinked multiple times. I looked at where the Beta and the she-wolf were earlier, but they weren’t there already. My heart was beating so loudly that I thought it was about to bust.
“Let’s go,” he said before slowly withdrawing his hand from me.
That’s when I was relieved. When I looked at him, he was already meters away from me.
Wow. That was fast. I shook my head and followed him immediately. I needed to double my steps to keep up with his speed.
“Uhmm, will we not wait for the Beta? And we’ll really go hunting? Just the two of us?” I asked.
He finally stopped walking and looked at me. I stopped walking as well.
Shit, did I ask too many questions?
He stared at me for a while before he gave out a sigh. “Why? Can’t you take a simple hunt? Come on. Darius will interrogate that spy,” he said as he continued to walk but immediately stopped again to glance at me briefly. “And oh, Nice shot, by the way,” he added before he turned his back and finally started walking for fear.
My heart tumbled at the unexpected compliment.
I didn’t know how long we were walking until he finally stopped again, so I also stopped.
I was about to ask him why he abruptly stopped when I suddenly heard a rustling sound from a nearby bush. My hand immediately flew to my bow and arrow, keenly looking at the direction of the sound as I tightly clenched my weapon. Then, suddenly a deer appeared, and I managed to release an arrow toward it, but it missed.
But a second later, I heard a swift sound of an arrow again. My eyes darted to my left and saw that it was the Alpha who shot it. It precisely penetrated the deer’s back, effectively immobilizing it.
I gasped and just shook my head in awe.
