He looked straight into my eyes.

“From now on, you will be my cook. When I say personal, nobody will ever make my food again except you. In addition, you will no longer be staying in the Omega's quarters but here in my mansion.”

Chapter Sixteen

“Celine’s so lucky.”

“I know, right.”

“What do you think she did?”

“I don’t know why you don’t ask her.”

I stopped what I was doing and closed my eyes for a bit. The door was closed, but I could still hear my fellow Omegas chatting outside. Unfortunately, their topic was me.

The news of my sudden appointment as the Alpha’s cook immediately spread like wildfire. Now, I instantly became the hot topic of my fellow servants.

“So, what did you do, huh?” Leila asked. She was leaning on the wall with her arms crossed and eyebrow raised at me.

I creased my forehead. “What do you mean, what did I do?” I asked her back.

She shrugged.

“That’s why I’m asking you, Celine. And you know what I mean,” she said, still giving me that weird look.

I scoffed.

“I don’t know what I did, okay? He just told me I would be his cook and all,” I said because it was true anyway. I was so shocked by what he said that I couldn’t react immediately.

Everything was so fast, and the next thing I knew, he had already called Leila and told her about his decision; thus, we are here now. I was already packing my things to transfer to the mansion since he instructed that I needed to be there. Honestly, I don’t know why I needed to be there. I mean, what difference will it make if I just stay here in our quarters? It’s just a few blocks from the mansion, so I don’t understand the Alpha’s decision. Leila’s right. He’s hard to read.

“This is bad, Celine.”

I immediately stopped what I was doing again and looked at Leila, who looked anxious.

“What?” I asked, confused.

She didn’t answer immediately. She trailed off as she stared at me with her eyes filled with worry. “What is it, Leila?” I asked again.

She took a deep breath as if gathering all her strength. “This is bad because he might be suspecting you for something. It will be bad for your training. How will you sneak out every night if you’re heavily guarded in the mansion? The Alpha must have known something. Celine, this is really bad, especially if we don’t know why he made you stay there when you can always be here and be his personal cook. It’s really odd, Celine.”

We stared at each other for a few seconds. I was stunned, trying to process everything that Leila had just said. It took me a few minutes to realize what danger I might be entering. Shit. Does the Alpha know about my secret or something? Leila’s right. How will I escape later? Oh, damn it.

I bit my lip... “What should I do, then?” I nervously asked Leila. She just looked at me and gave me a sigh.

“I honestly don’t know, Celine, but we’ll see,” she took a deep breath and tapped me on the shoulder. I nodded slightly before resuming packing my things.

Leila left me after that. My mind was filled with conflicting emotions as I spent my time in solitude. A part of me was happy since I finally found my purpose for this pack as a personal cook. However, I still can’t help but worry about my training with Leila. How could I escape under the Alpha’s watch?

A sigh escaped my lips after I was done packing. I closed my eyes tight and muttered a simple prayer for the situation that I was about to get into. After that, I wore the bag Leila gave me. When I left the room, the other Omegas were already there as if they were all waiting for me to go out. But they immediately looked around and avoided my gaze when I caught them staring at me.

Leila cleared her throat, which caught my attention.

“Let’s go, Celine. Everyone, go to your rooms,” she instructed, and the others immediately followed. She turned to me after. I just gave her a nod before following her out of the house. We were walking side-by-side on the way to the mansion. It was already silent. All I could hear were just the sound of crickets around us. Guards around the mansion made me think again about how I would escape later. I mean, these guards are on shift. They do not sleep.

“How will I train tonight?” I whispered to Leila when we finally reached the mansion. She said she would guide me to my room here in the mansion.

“Shh. Stop asking. The Alpha might hear you. Just remember to be very careful later,” she whispered back, still surveying the place as if someone might appear in surprise. I shook my head.
