And it went on and on. I clenched my jaw and just focused on my shooting. I fired five arrows simultaneously, and it all hit the bull’s eyes—everyone in the training room gasped in awe. I let out a sigh and looked in their direction. I saw how they all stepped back when they saw me.
I didn’t bother looking at them and just gathered my arrows before walking out. Tsk. I was on my way back to the field when I stopped in my tracks. A few meters away from me was Lucas. Our eyes met. I saw how he almost held his breath when we looked at each other. Huh. What now? I kept my poker face and was about to walk past him when he stopped.
“Celine,” he called, and I looked at him with a bored expression on my face.
“What?” I asked. He blinked multiple times before avoiding my eyes.
“Would you want to go hunting with us?”
I raised my brow at him. “If you’re not with them, why not.”
Chapter Fifty
“Oooh!” I heard the other warriors yelp as if they were teasing Lucas. I saw Darius leading the group like a freaking mad man. He covered his mouth, fighting the urge to laugh at his Alpha.
I kept my stoic face as I kept my eyes on Lucas. I saw how he glared at Darius and the others. The warriors immediately stopped, but Darius just gave out a hearty laugh. I heard Lucas groan because of that. I shook my head and was about to walk away when he called me again.
I stopped and looked at him lazily. “What?”
“Join the hunting,” he said.
“Only if you stay,” I fired back. I saw how his jaw clenched because of what I said.
I could feel the stares of the other pack warriors on us. I even heard some of them whispering and murmuring something. As to what they were saying, I don’t have any idea. I looked Lucas in the eyes. I’d want to go hunting to release my frustration, to be honest, but definitely not with him.
He’s the reason why I was frustrated. I want to stay away from him as much as possible.
“Come on, Alpha, Celine will greatly help the group. We could catch more food with her. Don’t worry. I’ll take care of her,” I quickly turned my back to Darius, who was already smirking. I raised a brow at him.
“I’m not a kid. I can take care of myself,” I shot back. They all went silent. I looked back at Lucas again. “What is it then? Am I going? Please, hurry. I need to train,” I said coldly.
His jaw was clenched even more. It was as if he was angry over something, but he couldn’t just say it. Huh, what now? Are you frustrated with me? Well, it serves you right! Now you know how it feels to be in my position.
I hissed. He still did not speak. I was getting impatient already. Just when I was about to walk away when he gave out a surrendering sigh. “Fine, I won’t go. You go with them,” he said as if it was a very hard decision to make. I smirked to myself. “Here. Use this,” he added and handed me his spear, but I just raised a brow at him.
“I don’t need that.”
And with that, I walked away and went to the Beta’s group. “Let’s go. I’m ready,” I said as I continued walking.
They all seemed so stunned that I needed to clap my hands just for them to notice me. Once they were able to pull themselves together, they immediately started walking. I stayed for a while and looked back at Beta Darius, who was still talking to Lucas. The former was wearing his infamous smirk, the latter’s forehead was creased, and both hands formed into fists.
Tsk. What’s his deal again, seriously? I shook my head and just followed the other warriors.
“Did you fight with Lucas?”
I stopped in my tracks when I heard Darius’ voice.
“What?” I asked. The brute just smirked and shook his head.
“What did you fight about, huh?” he probed while walking beside me. I didn’t mind him and just walked faster so I could catch up with the others. I didn’t need Darius nagging me today, seriously. Tsk.
I chose to ignore him as I increased the speed of my walk so that it almost looked like I was running, but the asshole was just so annoying that he even half-run to reach up to me.
I groaned when he was beside me again.
“Come on, can’t you share? Was it that serious?”
I still didn’t answer him, and he kept on babbling nonsense. I bit my lip hard and just continued walking faster. But then, he was faster than me, so he would easily catch up whenever I could get ahead of him. Easy as that. Tsk. I glared at him, but he just laughed and raised both of his hands.
