“What are you talking about?” he answered with another question nonchalantly, but I noticed a hint of hostility laced in his voice.
The Beta also stopped walking when he noticed my sudden conversation with Alpha Lucas.
“You said you needed me so I could guide you inside the Crest Moon’s territory. But isn’t it funny because it seems like you’re even more familiar in this place than I was,” I boldly said, trying to fight the trembling of my knees as I faced him?
His eyes narrowed at me.
“Why did you even bring me here if that’s the case? Do you have any other agenda other than to rescue our spies?” I added.
Before answering, he pursed his lips and stared at me for a couple of seconds.
“Don’t you want to visit the pack who banished you? Don’t you have a thirst for revenge just like me?” he asked intently, locking his eyes on mine.
My brows furrowed. “Revenge?”
What the hell is he saying?
He quickly looked away. “Let’s just say that your previous pack took away something important from me, just like what they did on you.”
Chapter Twenty-Eight
I was bothered by Lucas’ words. It had been a few minutes since we started walking down the dark tunnel, but his words from earlier still lingered inside my head. I just kept on staring at his back since he was the one leading us while I was in the middle. There was a deafening silence while we were walking.
Revenge. Did he want revenge just like me? Something was taken away from him just like me? Those cryptic answers made me curious even more. I wanted to ask more, but I felt like doing that would mean that I’ll be invading his privacy, so I just chose to remain quiet.
“We’re almost there,” he announced.
I was suddenly taken aback by that.
A few more walks and we were greeted by a dead end and a ladder. I looked up and saw that there was a circle-like cover in there. I guess that’s where we will be getting out. We stopped. It seemed that the Alpha was mind linking to the Gamma’s group.
“They’re in,” he said. That was our cue. Beta Darius headed to the ladder, so I followed him as well. A few minutes later, we heard some rattling above us. We all looked up at the same time; each of us was getting ready in case of a surprise attack.
I saw the circle cover move. I tightened the grip on the strap and looked at the hole intently.
“Clear,” a voice upstairs said. A smirk plastered on the Beta’s face before he turned to us.
“Let’s get this party started,” he said before climbing the ladder. I took one more breath before following him upstairs.
Two warriors were waiting and helping us get out of the tunnel. The moment I stood on the ground up was the moment I realized that we were already in the mansion’s kitchen. Holy shit. This secret tunnel sure is on a whole different level!
“Everyone’s in their post, Alpha,” the gamma said. I looked at the hole that we came in. It was already covered with carpet. I couldn’t help but smile even more. Damn. In my eighteen years in the pack, I didn’t know there was an escape route here!
Fuck!
“Let’s go,” Lucas ordered, which made me look back at him. He met my gaze. “Follow me,” he said.
I was stunned, I didn’t expect him to let me follow him, but I obliged.
I could hear the chaos happening outside the moment we stepped out of the kitchen. We were alert the whole time in case of any possible attacks. It was their turf. We need to be extra careful. The mansion seemed abandoned. I didn’t see any omega or any of the high-rank officials here.
Where the hell are they?
“We couldn’t locate the Alpha and the elders. It seems that the high ranks are not here, Alpha,” I turned to the Gamma. “It’s only the pack warriors and some of the servants outside,” he added. I heard Lucas groan in frustration.
We were already in the living room, yet we still hadn't seen any werewolves in the vicinity.
“Fuck. Proceed with the rescue mission. Do not hurt the innocents,” Lucas said firmly. I could see the evident anger in his eyes. He’s pissed off because Michael and the rest of the Crest Moon higher-ups are nowhere to be seen.
