Chapter Twenty-Four
The days after that surprise attack from the rogues were fortunately normal. A lot of them who infiltrated us were held captive and are now being interrogated. Many of them refused to say anything, so the Alpha had no choice but to keep them here. He couldn’t just let them go for the reason that they may tell on us to whoever asked them to attack. I honestly do not know why the Alpha theorizes such things. I mean, they are rogues. It has been in their nature to evade territories, especially if they have no food in their past places, but then I think Alpha Lucas has more knowledge about it. And I was in no position to question that.
Some of them surrendered and became part of the warriors. They were just ordinary rogues who did not know anything about who planned the attack. They were just told they would conquer territory, and that’s it. Nevertheless, Alpha Lucas still made them a part of the warriors.
“Hey, are you all done?” I immediately looked around when I heard Leila.
“We’re done,” I said, lifting the plate and putting it on the cart. Leila then nodded at me.
“The Alpha’s waiting in the dining room,” she said. I just nodded as well and went in there together with the other omegas as well. When we got into the dining room, the Alpha was not alone. I saw the Beta and Gamma with him, and they seemed to be in a serious talk.
One of the omega knocked before we finally walked towards them. The Alpha nodded to us. They stopped talking for a bit and let us serve the food to them. We immediately went to the side when we were done and just waited for them.
I stayed my head down as they continued eating and talking as well.
“Our spies have encountered some Crest Moon wolves lurking around our vicinity,” I heard the Gamma say. “Just send us the word, and we’ll intervene with them.”
I couldn’t help but look at the Alpha for a bit. He looked at the Gamma and Beta for a few seconds before clearing his throat.
“No, just let them be. But be careful, too. Do not let them see you observing them as well. Do not attack. Observe their spies first, and let the other spies do the same in the vicinity of their pack,” he instructed. I kept my head down as they continued to converse about the Crest Moon.
I wonder why some Crest Moon spies are prowling around the Blood Moon territory. Is this the reason why Lucas has been so insistent in squeezing out any information from me about my former pack?
Now that I overheard the Gamma’s report, I can’t help but regret that I couldn’t provide more information during my intel sessions with the Alpha. But then, I had already told him they were secretive regarding battle strategy and plans. I even regretted not being nosy to my father about it. If I had involved myself in the pack before, I should’ve provided more information to them, and I might have had more opportunities to ask for more information about the ambush.
I’m still stuck with very little information regarding what happened that day, and it’s frustrating. I couldn’t find the right time to ask and dig for more because of the tension between the two packs. And I’m afraid it’s not only between two packs but also between the whole Werewolf Realm. I don’t even know who the allies and the enemies are. But if there’s one thing I am sure of, it’s that Crest Moon is an enemy not just for me but for my new pack. With what’s happening now, I was more convinced that there had been irregularities during that ambush, which may have caused my father’s life. I wanted to know more about that.
“Let’s be prepared for the possible attack, too. One of the rebels confessed already.”
I immediately looked up when I heard the Beta. My mouth parted a bit, and my eyes widened as well. I saw Alpha Lucas clenching his fist while looking at his plate.
“I knew it. Tsk. Those assholes are really testing my patience. Tsk. Rogues, huh? Don’t they have enough courage to attack me personally that they have to send these brainwashed clowns?”
I could hear the anger and frustration combined with how he was muttering those words. I heaved a sigh. So, the Crest Moon sent those rogues that attacked us. They must have really conflicted with the Blood Moon, huh? Was their conflict rooted way back in their ancestors? I mean, when I was in Crest Moon and hearing sentiments about how we were fighting the Blood Moon, the reason presented to us was that this pack was the thorn of the realm. They were the savage ones who wanted to invade and stay dominant. They were the bad ones, but now, with all these things happening, it seemed clearer to me.
Since I stayed in this pack from day one, I have always heard the warriors attacking, but that was after other wolves' reports of aggressiveness. I couldn’t remember them being the aggressors because they wanted to aggrieve a pack. It was the opposite of what the Crest Moon had been feeding me. Now, it seemed that they were the ones who were aggressive and into fights. And I couldn’t understand why.
I bit my lip as I clasped my hands together on my back. The three powerful werewolves continued talking while trying to digest all the information I heard. Now, I’m more curious about the true reason for the feud between these two packs. Was it connected to my father’s ambush?
I needed to know!
“Celine,” I was taken aback when Lucas suddenly called my name. When I looked up, I saw that the other omegas were already going out of the room, as well as the Beta and the gamma.
“I-I’m sorry, Sir. I spaced out,” I said and was about to leave the room to follow my co-servants when he suddenly called me again.
I turned back to him and slowly walked up to him again.
“Are you okay? You seemed bothered,” he asked curiously.
I looked at him. I saw how his forehead creased as he studied me from head to toe. I heaved a sigh and gave him a small smile.
“I-I’m fine. I guess I was just overwhelmed with the information that I heard,” I answered truthfully while averting his gaze.
“Why? Still can’t believe that your previous pack was the bad one?” He asked. There was a hint of spite in his voice.
I didn't answer him. I don’t know what to say or what to answer.
“Tell me, what is it that’s bothering you?” he asked again.
