“You ready?” he asked, smirking.

I pressed my lips together and slowly nodded. “Yes, I am.”

And my one hell of training with the best fighter in the pack started.

That's what I did the whole day, non-stop training. I could say my performance earlier with the Alpha was okay, but still not that good. Well, at least I did not flop. He just gave me some pointers for my moves. That was a relief, though. At least I fought more decently now.

Around five in the afternoon, Leila decided to end my training. The warriors were outside as usual, so I had to cook a lot of dishes as per the Alpha’s request. I won’t have training in the evening anyway, so I will have the rest I need later. What’s more, I will also have the time to continue my investigation of my father’s ambush.

Yes, aside from my training, I have been keeping myself busy finding information about what really happened the night of his death. With the help of some information I got from the warriors who trained me and from Leila, I could somehow trace the thread of events.

But I was doing this as discreetly as possible. I just disguised my questions as a curious inquiry. Of course, I cannot be on the Alpha’s bad side. Who knows what he would think once he found out about this. It’s safe to say I was in the middle of both packs. Although my heart told me that being in Blood Moon was a good move, I still wanted to unravel the truth about my father’s death. I need to know what really happened to him that night and what these two packs really did during that time.

Later that night, I was just in my room reading all the information I had so far since I had written it down in a secret note.

I was in the middle of examining the information that I had collected when I suddenly felt the dryness of my throat. So I put the papers on the table and got out of bed to get some water. I yawned as I walked my way into the kitchen until I suddenly saw Alpha Lucas quietly standing in the living room.

He was staring at a huge painting of two people I learned before as his parents.

He was holding a glass of wine with his left hand as he gazed at his parents’ static figures. He drank from the glass without taking his eyes off the painting in front of him.

For some reason, I also couldn’t take my eyes off him. Perhaps, I was stunned because, for the first time, I saw him in a different light.

The Alpha Lucas that I am seeing right now looks vulnerable.

Chapter Twenty-Two

I couldn’t get Lucas’ image off my mind after I witnessed that. I wasn’t even able to go out and drink water. It felt like my thirst didn’t push through when I saw him in that state. That night, I had a hard time sleeping. I didn’t know how long I was awake or what time I slept that night. One thing’s for sure, the Alpha I saw last night was far different from the ruthless Alpha I had been introduced to.

“You’re quiet,” I was pulled back into reality when I heard Leila’s voice.

I just gave her a small smile. I couldn’t think of a proper answer anyway.

So I just decided to go to the kitchen and leave Leila in the dining area. Some of my fellow omegas had already started preparing breakfast, so I helped them.

“Does he have a preference?” I asked Sheena, but she just shrugged. Oh, it looks like he does not have, though.

I shook my head and went to the pantry. I got all the ingredients that I needed. Afterward, I returned to the kitchen and started preparing the food. It was a silent and fast preparation. I don’t know, but the atmosphere felt different, too. It was just so quiet, and I wasn’t used to it since we were always chaotic in the kitchen, but it somehow changed. I don’t know what caused it anyway.

“It’s done,” I said while transferring the food to the plates. The others were already cleaning, and some were getting the food in the cart. I fixed my dress and removed my apron before joining others to serve the Alpha.

My eyes darted at him the moment we entered the dining room. As usual, he was alone. He lazily stared at the food being served. While serving, I couldn’t help but notice that he was quite strange that morning. I couldn’t wrap my finger around it, but something about him seemed off. I knew him to be very observant and sensitive, so he should’ve at least noticed how I was gawking at him. Normally, he would at least raise an eyebrow at me, but this time, he doesn’t seem to notice or care about his surroundings.

He was awfully quiet the whole breakfast, which was the odd thing about him that day. Surprisingly, that image of him bothered me as well.

“Celine!” I blinked multiple times when I heard that voice. I was immediately pulled back to reality, and my head went down to what I was doing.

I cursed myself and quickly turned off the water. I didn’t notice that I was already spacing out while washing the plates. I gave out a sigh. Oh, God.

“Celine...”

I turned to Sheena, who called me again.

“Uh, yes? What is it?” I asked.

“Leila told me that you will start your training already. I’ll finish washing the plates for you,” she smiled brightly.

I bit my lip and gave back a smile as well. I nodded and eventually stepped away from the sink. I looked at her, who was humming while continuing what I was doing. I sighed. Suddenly, I remembered how the she-wolves back in Crest Moon treated me like trash, while the she-wolves here were treating me very well. No matter their rank and role in the pack, I did not once feel that I did not belong. They were even more supportive when they knew that I was to be officially trained. I didn’t see any jealousy from them. Sure, some would joke about how lucky I was that the Alpha chose me to be in the mansion to be his cook, but I never felt them taking that fact seriously. Everyone was just so chill and casual.
