I turned around to see Michael standing behind me. He was smiling while both of his hands were in his pocket. I swallowed hard before I managed to smile back at him.
“M-Michael…” I breathed. My heart was beating rapidly.
“Hi, Celine,” he gave me a boyish grin, making me blush even more.
Oh gosh. This is embarrassing!
I bit my lip.
Relax, Celine! This is only Michael!
Yes. He was only Michael, the son of the Alpha. He was my childhood friend because my father was Beta to his father, and they were best friends. Michael and I grew up together. We knew each other very well. Apart from my parents, Michael was one of the most important people in my life.
“I didn’t hear you approach,” I said.
“I’m on stealth mode today,” he joked. He stared at me for a moment, then his forehead creased, and a frown replaced his smile.
In a blink of an eye, he was standing in front of me. He reached out to touch my face, and I almost jumped in surprise.
“What happened to this?” he asked, touching the cheek that Daria kicked. “Are you okay?”
I looked away, biting my lip. “I-It’s fine…I-I had a hard fall,” I lied.
He didn’t respond. I just felt his finger lifting my chin, making me look him in the eye. I felt my heart pounding even harder the moment our eyes met. His dark eyes were tender as he stared at me intensely.
“Are you sure?” he insisted.
“Y-yes…” I lied again.
He heaved a heavy sigh. He ran his hand over his hair. And then suddenly, he cursed softly. He held my chin between his thumb and forefinger, forcing me to look at him again.
Then slowly, he leaned forward, bringing his face closer to mine. My mouth parted almost instantly. I felt like my heart was going to jump out of my chest.
Oh, god! Is he going to kiss me?
Chapter Two
It was as if my world just stopped. I didn’t care about the surroundings anymore. My whole attention was just on Michael’s face. I couldn’t move. I could feel a weird and tingling sensation in my stomach. I feel like my chest is going to burst as his face comes closer and closer.
“M-Michael…” I stammered as he slowly brought his face near mine. I didn’t know what to do or what to say. His scent was hypnotizing me. The nearer his face gets, the louder my heart beats. I feel nauseous. I couldn’t breathe.
Slowly, I closed my eyes and anticipated his lips, but nothing came. I felt like I was pulled back to reality when I felt his finger move away from my chin. I opened my eyes.
He released me. I almost lost my balance and felt like my knees had become jelly.
“See you later,” he smirked before disappearing into the line of tears. I was left alone, dumbfounded.
What was that?
I felt my legs wobbling which made me sit on the trunk again. I heaved a sigh and tried to calm my breathing.
Was Michael toying with me?
I massaged my temple and took a deep breath once more. Suddenly, I heard some rustling sound from the nearby trees. I creased my forehead and turned in that direction.
Did Michael come back?
I tried to smell whoever was coming. I caught a whiff, but it wasn’t Michael; I was sure of it. It was a sweet, honey scent. I stood and surveyed my surroundings. I was about to follow the scent when Daria suddenly appeared in front of me.
