“Farren, you’re pregnant.”
It was her father’s voice, still distant, but the new word he uttered struck her.
Pregnant.
Pregnant?
She lost her balance and almost dropped the boulders, but it took every effort she had to keep it suspended midair.
Was she really pregnant?
She glanced at Ashton and Duncan and saw the truth in their eyes.
She was pregnant. She was going to have their baby.
Breaking through her fury, costing her everything she was worth, she searched for the parts she could control. Her mind felt like a war zone, blown up with fury, and now she had to comb through the debris and set things straight, smoothing them out.
The more she did that, the more control she gained. And with shallow breaths, she used her new, more controlled abilities, raised the boulders, and with her mind put them firmly back into place.
The effort cost her everything, and soon a sheet of darkness covered her as she collapsed.
Chapter Ten
Duncan and his twin shared the same savage need to decapitate heads. Even Ashton couldn’t be his fury contained. And they would start Anthony Back’s head.
The son of a bitch had taken matters into his own hands and had somehow captured Harold Dean Kinsley despite the alphas change in Kinsley’s status.
But Anthony had sent a photo of proof of his capture and it showed that he had already resorted to physically harming the older man, who he had restrained in one of their older strongholds on a piece of private land, about two hours’ drive from their mansion.
Forty minutes ago, their assistant had interrupted an extremely important meeting, one she knew better not to under any other circumstances. They knew she wouldn’t have disturbed a meeting with that rank of importance unless it concerned Farren which was their standing instruction in all things.
They weren’t above doing business with the Russian Bratva and if all went well they’d be procuring a certain brand of weaponry that the Maximillian’s own arms department would be able to modify. If it worked, they would have a substantially strong upper hand when it came to the war with the vampires. Luckily even the cantankerous Russians knew not to make an enemy out of the Maximillian alphas. They wouldn’t survive it.
All alpha kings of the branches of wolf shifter packs around the world were doing similar such deals, purchasing then modifying artillery.
They had days left before the war with the Remnants broke out. A war the vampires had instigated for decades and decades and now the wolves were answering them. The Remnants craved a world where they would enslave every human being, feeding on them and turning them into zombies. The only thing standing in the vampires’ way was the wolf shifters whose loyalty to the human race remained steadfast and protecting them their main goal. They were made in the image of Wulfric and their need to protect the human race had come from him too, something his soul mate Elissa had perhaps played a major part in.
Now the hairs on Duncan’s nape rose and an internal snarl wracked his body. Both he and his brother were bloodthirsty enough to win and end the war with the vampires but Farren took priority over that.
“Son of a bitch,” Ashton howled as they landed. They had taken their helicopter which was faster than them shifting and running through the forest only because they had been in the city when they got the call.
The fucker Anthony Back had been a royal fucking pain since the moment Farren entered their lives.
“He’s lying about someone tipping him off about Kinsley’s whereabouts.” Ashton’s thoughts cut through Duncan’s mind.
“There’s only one way Kinsley would get captured and that’s if he wanted to.”
“Something doesn’t feel right,” Ashton said and they both knew the fact that Farren’s scent had first changed then became undetectable had everything to do with it. They couldn’t trace her anymore now. And that brought about a well of fury and apprehension. They would set the world on fire if anything happened to Farren, fuck their encoded DNA to protect the feeble race.
Where was Farren?
When Alfred had said he searched the house and grounds for their little mistress, Amanda uncharacteristically going out of her mind at Farren’s absence, he and Ashton had been consumed by a violent savagery that boiled their blood.
If Anthony Back went ahead with the execution of Kinsley, Duncan and Ashton hoped they didn’t end up killing him too quickly. Back had decided to recruit his own army of a few stupid betas who fell for his rhetoric. Back believed that the alpha twins were blinded by the beauty of Farren and removed her father from their hit list to protect her. He created a buzz, where he questioned where the alphas' loyalties lay with the pack or some female who thought she was an omega. That they were blinded by the obsession with Farren and the pack needed leaders who were going to guide them to a victorious conclusion in the war with the vampires.
Their security team had sent them the video of Back’s secret broadcast minutes after their assistant had interrupted them with news of Farren missing. He had started an uprising but it would be Duncan and his brother who ended it and any of the pack that dared to join Back’s silly little crusade.
The trio of guards wearing black fatigue gear, three unknown betas who had decided to join forces with Anthony Back for a monthly compensation didn’t even try tostop them from entering the stronghold. At the sight of their true alpha kings, they quivered and set down their weapons, fearing for their lives.
