“Hey, Chlo.” He came closer and gave me a hug.

“Hey.” I beamed.

“Hey, man. You look like a corpse. Feeling better?” he asked Tristan.

“Better than ever.” Tristan looked at me.

Adrian looked between us and nodded, as if he understood the reason for Tristan’s answer. He walked to where Vina was sitting with Kayden in her arms and squatted in front of her.

“Hey, buddy.” He touched Kayden’s cheek and looked up at Vina.

“What?” She scowled.

“Let’s have our own baby.” He winked at her.

“Eww.” She gagged.

I laughed softly as I watched them. Someone touched my hand. I looked down at my hand and saw Tristan intertwining our fingers. They fitted so perfectly, and the sight made something shift in my chest.

“I’m sorry, sorry for ruining everything for you. I can’t give up on us,” he said softly, his eyes whispering,Come back to me.

I smiled at him and gave his hand a light squeeze. I didn’t know what to say, so I went with a lame answer.

“It’s okay,” I whispered.

We both took a glance at Kayden, who was too busy sucking from his bottle to care about Adrian and Vina bickering.

Tristan was discharged today. He wasn’t fully healed yet, but he was better. I was staying at the Sanchesters’ estate till the whole investigation was over and the person was behind bars for good. My apartment was still a mess, and Vina and I were too scared to enter the building with the culprit still out there.

Eduardo helped Tristan to his room while I remained in the living room. Nora took Kayden away after bribing him with her phone.

My phone rang beside me on the couch as I stretched my sore back. It was an unknown number.

“Hello?”

“Chloe, it’s Emily.”

My heart stopped beating. “Hi. Do you have the person?”

“Yes. Could you come over to the station? I have something to show you,” she whispered into the phone.

“Sure.”

“Great. I will be waiting.”

I called Vina and told her to pick me up.

“You really don’t think that maniac should know about this?” Vina asked after I entered the car.

“He’s still recovering. I will tell him when I get back. Do you think Grey is behind everything?” I asked her, not taking my eyes off the road since she was eating a burrito and driving.

“Yeah,” she said without giving it a thought.

“Vina, he is our friend.”

“I know, but ever since you got back from Cuba, he’s been acting weird.”
