“Okay,” I mumbled.

Detective Emily brought out a notepad and a fountain pen. “Firstly, tell us your name.”

“Chloe Simpson.”

“What’s your relationship with Mrs. Porter?”

I told them everything, not leaving anything out.

“So, she offered to help you hide your baby?” Detective Emily asked, giving me an incredulous look. I could see the judgment written all over her face.

“Yes.”

“Why aren’t you allowed to visit after nine?” Detective James asked, coming forward.

“Because that’s her bedtime. Kayden’s is at eight-thirty.”

He nodded slowly at my answer.

“So, no one knows about the baby, except the both of you?” Detective Emily asked.

“Well, not anymore.” I fiddled with my fingers on the hem of my waitress uniform.

“Can you elaborate on your answer?” Detective Clooney said.

“His father found out a few days ago and my best friend too.”

“Is that all?” Detective Emily asked, scribbling something on her notepad.

“No, there is this guy called Ryan.”

I didn’t care if they were going to lock me up. I would tell the truth for my baby. I told them everything that had happened with Ryan. I left Belvina out of the whole kidnapping story. They all exchanged a look after I was done talking. I knew I was going to jail.

“So, when did you last see him?” Detective Dean asked.

I wasn’t sure if he had been the one stalking me that night.

“Tuesday morning, before I left for work.”

“When was the last time you visited Mrs. Porter?” Detective James asked.

“Yesterday.”

“Time?” Detective James inquired.

“Around seven.”

“When did you leave?” Detective James continued.

“Ten minutes to nine.”

“Did she call you, or did you guys speak on the phone after that day?” Detective James asked.

“No.”

“Was she on bad terms with anyone, or does someone else visit her?” Detective Dean asked.

“Not that I know of.”
