“Yeah, I have a lot to say.”

Oh, look, it talks.

He leaned on the table with a smirk dancing at the corner of his lips. “So, you’re my wife?”

“Not … really. It’s an act.”

“I know. Do we get to do what couples do? Like making out and fucking?”

I looked around to see if anyone had heard him. “No,” I said, holding myself back from shooting him a glare.

“That’s sad. I was already thinking of different ways to make you scream my name. My favorite is cowgirl. I love watching those titties bounce as a girl rides my dick. When was the last time you had good fuck, Chloe?” he asked, undressing me with his eyes as he stared at the first three buttons left open on my uniform.

I swallowed the dryness in my throat. His questions made heat run through my body. I was disgusted.

“It’s none of your damn business. Your job is to act like my husband when I need you to.”

He smiled mischievously. “This will be fun,” he said and dipped the straw in his mouth, keeping his eyes on me.

This was what Mrs. Porter had called nice. I cocked a brow at him as he kept staring at me.What a douche.

“So, where is your son?”

“None of your concern.”

“But I’m the father. Well, it’s not like I care. Brie told me about him.”

Did he just call Mrs. Porter by her first name?

“What else did she tell you?”

“I wish I had more time to talk, but someone is waiting for me.” He finished his drink and stood up to leave.

“Before I forget and lose it or maybe pawn it, Brie said you should put this on.” He dropped a wedding ring in front of me. “We are already married, so just put it on.” He smirked.

“Okay,” I mumbled.

He leaned closer to the table to kiss me.

“Don’t. Even. Think. About. It.”

He paused and pulled away. “Jeez, you’re so boring. We are going to look like a couple getting a divorce.” He sighed and left.

I rolled my eyes and put the straw in my mouth. I wasn’t sure about this. I didn’t want to go through with this anymore. I wasn’t interested in a pretend husband.

“ … you don’t want those cruel people back in your life or Kayden’s. If they find out he is a Sanchester, they will do everything in their power to take him away. You might never see him again.”Mrs. Porter’s words echoed in my head.

I wouldn’t last a day with Ryan. I didn’t know how much Mrs. Porter had told him. We’d just have to find a way to make it work—baby steps.

I got home after spending a few hours with Kayden. I felt so exhausted and sore all over my body. Vina wasn’t back from work. I changed into black sports shorts and a white cotton cropped top.

I slumped on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and a can of soda. I grabbed the remote and searched for something interesting to watch on TV.

Someone knocked. I stood up and shuffled to the door. Vina was always too lazy to use her key. I opened the door, and I stared wide-eyed at the three suitcases in my doorway.

“Ryan?”
