“To end it all. I was sick of waiting for you, Chloe. I thought you’d come back to me, but, no, you were carrying his baby, which ruined all my chances with you.” He paused and laughed. “I waited. I gave my best shot, but you were still stuck on that psychopath. After everything he did to you, you had his child, and as soon as he got back, you were already back in his arms, like nothing had happened. You gave up on us, Chlo. Gabriella was just a diversion. I feel nothing for her. It’s you. It’s always going to be you, Chloe Simpson.”
I rolled my eyes and shook my head in disgust. “How did you find out about Kayden?”
“I was curious about why you always returned late from work and why you were avoiding me. I thought maybe you were seeing someone else. I decided to follow you one day, and I saw it. I saw the bastard …”
I placed my fist on the glass panel between us. He gave me a sly smile. He knew I couldn’t touch him.
“He is not a bastard. He is my son!” I exclaimed.
He sneered, shaking his head. “He is going to end up like his father—a psychopath!” he spat.
I clenched my fists. I badly wanted to break his nose and smash his face on the table.
“You’ll never be happy with him, Chloe. I wanted to do you a favor by getting rid of them. He will never love you the way I do. I can’t sit by and watch you create a family with him or let him get what I want. If I can’t have you, no one will.”
“I hope you rot in jail!” I stood up.
“He will only hurt you, Chloe. He doesn’t deserve you!” he screamed after me.
“Go to hell!” I glared at him and walked out.
I ran into Vina’s arms immediately when I entered the waiting area.
“How did it go?”
“I don’t wanna talk about it.”
We spoke to the detectives before leaving.
Vina decided to stop by the diner for something to eat. I went over and ordered some fries and chicken wings for her. I had no appetite. I only felt like throwing up. I joined Vina at our booth. She was humming to the song playing in the background.
“I should’ve noticed,” I mumbled.
“Yeah. Who knew Grey was all that? It’s true what they say—love makes you crazy. Don’t blame yourself, Chlo,” Vina said.
“He wanted to kill Kayden. Who would want to kill an innocent baby?”
“Grey,” Vina answered even if she knew it was a rhetorical question.
“Poor Gabriella,” Vina said, shaking her head. She picked up the cherry at the top of her milkshake and took a bite.
“He is behind bars. There is nothing to worry about anymore,” Vina said, taking my hand.
Kate came with our order. She asked Vina what hair products she used before walking away.
There was something on my mind. I wasn’t sure about telling Vina. Everyone knew about Kayden already, but they also needed to know about his twin. I thought I would never bring it up, but they had to know. I still regretted my decision, and I couldn’t go back and change it.
“Kayden is a twin. He has a sister,” I said quickly, not looking at her.
She stopped drinking from the straw and spat everything on me.
“You gave birth to twins?!”
