Page 46 of His True Beloved

My head whipped around to face him. His septum ring held a small crescent moon in the middle of it. “Unmated?” I questioned, stepping closer to Pamela.

“Yeah, Elder Rowan holds a mixer for all the supernaturals in the area. They do it here in town, so no one steps on anyone’s claimed territory.” Pamela’s friend shut the door as we began to descend. “There’s a lot of humans at the coven this year, which drew in many visiting packs. With the high success rate of those humans getting a mate—”

Pamela began motioning like she was slitting her throat with her finger. “Thanks, Ricky, but I think we will check out the band.” Ricky looked from Pamela to me when I started to turn green. I tried to pull away from Pamela to return to the closed doors.

“What if I meet my mate here?” I groaned as Pamela’s strong body pulled me further into the crowd. The leather skirt hugged my hips, the deep V in my top showing ample cleavage. It wasn’t the first time I’d ever worn a club outfit, but now being brutally aware that I could meet my mate with all these new faces, they could very well take me away and claim me.

I don’t want that, even if the goddess deems it.

I just want Sebastian.

“Listen here.” Pamela put both her hands on my shoulders. “Do you trust me?” I nodded, her violet eyes sparkling with the strobe lights. Bodies dancing, moving us around the dance floor, had me focusing more on her and the still movement we shared. Her lip curled, her finger fixing my mascara. “You will be fine, you got me, and I’ll be damned if I let my new human friend get her heart hurt!” she yelled over the music.

Grabbing my hand, she led me to the front right of the stage. The music was still playing from the DJ at the top of the stage until the lights faded from him, and the music died. Roars of cheers went through the crowd, Pamela waving her hands in the air as her blue tube top sparkled in the dimming light. Her fangs descended, watching the four prominent men walk on stage.

The lead singer held piercings and black leather bracelets, his hair spiked with blonde tips holding a microphone as he held up his arm and parted his fingers in the traditional rock and roll style hand gestures. The drummer, donning a leather vest, pants, and thick silver-looking chains around his neck, began beating on his instruments.

The entire room went crazy. Wolves, vampires, and some holding pointed ears like elves or fairies threw bras and panties on the stage while the men who came to watch eyed them all in jealousy and excitement. I was the only one standing still, facing the never-ending crowd looking beyond it all.

Everyone was happy to be here, oblivious to the lonely human in the room. My worry continued to pour off me that I may meet someone that was supposed to be my forever when I felt like I had already found him.

I flipped on my phone for the first time since I shut it off. Thirty-seven missed calls, but they weren’t all from Sebastian. More of the ‘unknown’ number from the caller ID had me freeze. Then the texts rolled in from Sebastian, each one more frantic than the last.

“You’re mine, Christine. I already warned you.”

“Tell me where you are. I’m worried.”

“Fuck, Bella, come back to me.”

“I’m going to find you and let you know who you belong to.”

Instead of the red flags I should have been seeing, my heart fluttered. My pussy throbbed, and my nipples tightened at the thought of Sebastian hunting me down. It was that craziness that Pamela described that she wanted in a mate. Have her mate hunt her down, dominate her.

Never in my life have I wanted that, but with Sebastian….

I really do.

A grip on my bicep tightened. It wasn’t hard enough to hurt me, but enough to pull me away from the crowd. Abruptly, my mouth was covered by the hot fire touches that felt so recognizable.

Instead of struggling to pull away, I let the tall body that hovered over me drag me to the side of the stage. I was being pulled into a darkened closet until the door slammed shut, holding back the sounds of the band playing.

The mumbled music, the bass shaking the utility closet on my back as I was forced against it, made me vibrate in excitement. All the thoughts of losing the one vampire that stole my heart so quickly vanished. We were in a moment where nothing else mattered, our own time capsule that would keep us entrapped by the chemistry and heat we shared.

“Bella.” He growled warningly. The heat of his breath fanned my neck. His lips were so close to my skin had my knees weakened. Forcing his knee between my legs, holding me up with his muscular body, I let out a shaky breath.

“You ran from me.” He nipped my skin with a fang.

Gasping, feeling the gentle trickle of blood escaping my neck, pooling into my collar bone, I gripped his biceps-only for him to force them above my head with one hand. One hand encompassed my wrists while the other held my lower back, pulling my core closer to this body.

“I told you… you are my mine, little human.” His tongue licked my wound close, then lapped at the deep pool of blood on my collarbone.

Sebastian

The rapid repetitions on her door had me seething. I couldn’t smell her, couldn’t hear the beating of her rhythmic heart that matched mine. Calling her repeatedly had me thinking the worst.

I growled, finally pushing the door open, having the door handle getting stuck into the opposite wall.

Stepping into the house further, I noticed that her smell faded the further I came in. “Damn it.” I ran my hand through my hair. I shouldn’t have left her this morning, just kept her in my arms until she woke to ensure she didn’t get cold feet.
