Page 41 of His True Beloved

“Sunshine.” A hand touched my shoulder. The Wyatt in front of me disappeared, and the hand turned me around. Wyatt stood. Small horns on his head and slightly pointed ears had me gasp in shock. “There is a reason I did it, all the times before…”

“What?” I slapped his hand away. “So the rumors were true… you said you waited for me as I did for you. I thought it might be all lies. You had done it with others?” Wyatt continued to stalk forward. His broad shoulders and muscular body gripped me by the forearms. Strong claws raked one arm as I pushed away.

I screamed, seeing the blood drip. It hit the floor with a bang. The exaggerated sound had me stiffen. “A dream,” I whispered. “Just a dream.” My voice shook again.

“Sunshine, I’m sorry.” He glanced at his bloodied claw, appalled at his action.

“You lied to me. You broke all the trust I had in you!” Flashes of our first date, first time holding hands, our first kiss, my everything. I squeezed my eyes tightly with regret. I had been hesitant toward him when he first asked me out, but he wiggled his way through the cracks. It was all so endearing. He was so passionate about me being his girlfriend that I finally accepted.

My mind had accepted.

Wyatt was great in my eyes but not in my heart. It was all a mistake. It was all a waste of time because my heart never belonged to him. “I’m letting you go, Wyatt. You can’t have me.” My thoughts ran to Sebastian. He can stop my pain. He can heal me, protect me.

“You can’t. I’ll find you!” he yelled. Wyatt’s skin turned a deep shade of gray, a tail waving behind his back. The light shade of blonde hair turned blue-black.

What is he?

“I’m taking you for myself. Let me explain why I did it.” I shook my head, my hands shaking as the drops of blood were more important than this… devil in front of me. The slickness of my blood made it difficult to get a grip as he tried to pull me into his arms.

I slipped from his grasp, my knees hitting the floor, bed vanishing. The lightheadedness from seeing my blood left me muddled. “Sebastian?” I whimpered. My hand reached into the darkness. The warmth of Sebastian’s hand followed, pulling me into his embrace.

Wyatt gripped his fists, growing pointed teeth. “The hell?” The Wyatt I knew as the funny kid in algebra class in eleventh grade was long gone. The fetching smile and his captivating personality were fading away. A new Wyatt emerged, a devil with deep soulless eyes.

“Chrissy.” His voice softened. “Let me explain, and things can go back to they were before. I swear it won’t happen again.” His voice pleaded, and Wyatt didn’t beg. It was beneath him.

“I can’t.” I put my head on Sebastian’s chest. “You broke me and… Sebastian. He picked up the pieces.” My head tilted back, seeing him already staring down at me.

Even dream Sebastian was sexy as hell.

And here for me.

Sebastian fixed me far faster than I wanted, having me jump from one relationship to the next, but life was short. Of all people, Sebastian knew that. Hell, my mother knew that. She grabbed hold of her true love she could find, her soulmate. The more I thought about it, the only reason I stayed with Wyatt was for convenience rather than love. He never hit, degraded, or made me feel humiliated as my sperm donor did to my mom. But that wasn’t my love… not really.

No matter how long you spend with someone, you may never truly know them, just like Wyatt, the serial cheater.

Bastard.

What I felt I had with Sebastian was… real, as crazy as it sounded.

“I know where I’m staying…” I squeezed dream Sebastian as he smiled, his arms intimately around me. Small blue spheres of light appeared around us. I didn’t care what they were, but they were meant to be here too. “And it’s here.”

Wyatt roared in rage, lurching forward with sharp pointed teeth. His tail whipped behind him as his demon-like horns grew. Ducking my head into Sebastian’s chest, I woke with a jerk.

My fingers clutched Sebastian’s shoulders, and somehow my body was on top of his. His large hands rubbed up and down my back, and his shushing noises blew pieces of hair on my face.

“You all right?” Sebastian’s husky voice soothed me as I began to relax.

“Just a nightmare,” I mumbled. Sebastian ran his fingers through my hair.

“Do you want to talk about it?” His voice held longing, he wanted to know more about me, and he had given me so much of his past. How he was, and why he was the way he was.

I liked the possessiveness he held for me. To have me protected like a precious gem.Shouldn’t I be fair and give him a part of me too? Especially how comfortable I was with him?

Duh.

“My ex,” I whispered. Sebastian stiffened, but his smoothing fingers continued to massage my scalp. “He cheated on me with my roommate.” I didn’t choke. I didn’t cry. All my tears were gone from my devil ex.

“I walked into her bedroom across the hall from mine. I heard his voice,” I trailed. Sebastian sat me up, having me straddle his lap as he leaned against the headboard. “He said my name while he was with her. I thought it was a mistake like he was drunk, but the look on his face when he saw me… he knew what he did.” My face lowered in shame.
