Correction, my teeth have turned into fangs.

“Oh, gods.” I sat by a nearby rock. Even being changed, the dark blood drip on my finger made me woozy.

“Not good to shout the gods’ names in vain while you are hurting, but I’ll allow it.” Artemis came to my side. Pulling a leather cloth, sprinkling water as she wiped my hand. “You didn’t get sick earlier when you saw blood. You are just in a fragile state right now with the shock. I feel you will be just fine once this all settles.” Wiping away the last bit of blood, she held my hands together.

“Being a human would suck. I’d never want to be one,” she spat.

Geez, thanks for the honesty?

“Because for some crazy reason, the Fates have it settled in their heads that humans and supernaturals belong together and with that comes great responsibilities. You will get through this, and when the call comes, I hope you and Sebastian take it quickly. For the sake of all those that need a new home,” she whispered.

Taking a large breath of ash, I nodded silently. I mean, I had a goddess at my feet asking me to do this. She couldn’t make me do this, but when someone so powerful comes to you and asks you for help, what are you supposed to do?

“My sisters and I thank you for your willingness, Christine.” I stood, ready to shake her hand, but she embraced me.

Before I could ask her why the male gods weren’t around to fix this mess, my eyes closed, and I went back to reality.

Chapter 33

Under the Moon

Sebastianpacedupanddown the lowly lit bedroom. The carpet by the window was wearing thin, and the stubble on his cheeks had grown. It had been two more days, and Christine still lay in the bed asleep.

From the occasional stir of her eyelids fluttering to the tiny twitches of her hand, it was the only life he seemed to sense in her. Even her heart had beat softly but still beating to the same rhythm of his, but so faintly it had him curse beneath his breath.

Sebastian called Rowan up to his room several times during those days, having the coven physician in tow. The physician checked the beating of her heart, using needles to draw out her blood and checking for clotting factors that had appeared in those few days. Sebastian watched him as he nodded, mumbling everything was according to schedule and she would wake soon.

But how soon?

Sebastian continued to pull at his hair. The thought of getting cleaned up, neatly shaven, and ready for his beloved to wake sat in the back of his mind, but he couldn’t very well leave her.

A knock at the door sounded, revealing Christine’s nervous parents, Justin and Vanessa. “Can we come in?” Vanessa asked pleadingly. Her eyes were not as bright as they once were when she was having trouble with her blood lust. Her demeanor was calm as she tried to step her way in the door, only for Justin to grab her shoulder.

“Remember, he’s territorial of her since there is only one side of the bond right now,” he reminded. She shyly stepped away, mumbling a sorry. Justin chuckled at her, pulling her to his chest.

“You haven’t rested, and Vanessa is now free of her blood lust. How about you shower? We will watch over her for you,” Justin said. He wanted to give him a stern look, but Sebastian was stronger than him and knew he would just laugh.

“I-I think I can do that.” Sebastian’s hands shook. His body trembled, he was starving, and once he tasted his beloved’s blood, he couldn’t stomach anything else. Vanessa looked to the bed where her daughter lay.

Sebastian could only wonder what was running through that poor woman’s head. She was once like this, for three days at least where she lay and her daughter couldn’t come see her. Now the situation was reversed, and Vanessa’s heart visibly sank.

“She understands now.” Justin calmed his beloved as they approached the bed while Sebastian grabbed some pants that many vampires wore in the earth realm called ‘sweats’. He turned his nose up at the gray, thick material, not understanding much of the hype the women loved about it.

His shower was quick but relaxing nonetheless. Soon he would have Christine, and when she woke, her undeniable thirst would be so intense she would bite into his shoulder like an animal starving. The bond would soothe her once her teeth sunk in and the bond was firmly planted.

Sebastian shivered in delight, excited about what was to come as he shaved his face clean. He wanted no stubble, so it wouldn’t irritate the inner thighs of his mate. As he towel-dried his face, he heard a howl from the window, none other than Christine’s friend Pamela.

She had been walking around the coven ass naked since Christine was sleeping, still toying with Alpha Enzo by running close to the border and hopping away. He had heard the growls of disapproval only for Pamela to dart into the woods for their daily chases. The poor mutt’s balls were bluer than the eastern sea in Bergarian. At least that wasn’t going to be Sebastian’s problem much longer.

He was going to be slapping his against his mate’s ass very soon.

Sebastian smirked, hearing Pamela yell into the window. The sigma had a nose, and with the crack of the window, she could find out exactly where Sebastian stood in the coven house. “She awake yet?” Pamela yelled into the window.

“Not yet.” Sebastian smiled at the wolf that was slowly inching into his heart. She was a good friend; part of him believed that she hadn’t let Enzo capture her because she wanted to be Christine's second line of defense in case a certain incubus revealed himself.

“Sebastian!” a high-pitched squeal came from the small apartment. Justin pushed the door to the bathroom and motioned for Sebastian to hurry. The soft moans of his mate could be heard now that he was listening with his heart, and he snatched his sweats quickly.

“She’s waking!” he yelled out the window before he left a naked Pamela stunned on the ground below. Sebastian found Christine slowly moving her body, her muscles heavy from lack of movement.
