“I’m not an accountant,” I mentioned. “I have my degree in graphic design and hospitality management, so I’m not sure how I will help much. But I will help.” Rowan chuckled, pouring himself a tea cup.

“Well, that is good to hear, but I don’t think you realize what kind of position will be asked of you.” Sebastian and I looked at each other in confusion.

“Position? We just thought we would help?” Sebastian replied.

“You are to both become king and queen temporarily until Queen Taliyah and Prince Jasper can produce a vampire heir.” Rowan’s eyes furrowed. “The old vampires are stuck in their ways and demand a vampire in the position. They won’t accept Taliyah since she is a hybrid. They find her too powerful and odd. Clara had mentioned your name, Sebastian. Clara has said if you have found your mate, then she and Queen Taliyah would want you both to rule until it was time for their child to ascend the throne.”

“Uh…” I went to take my hand away from Sebastian, but his grip grew tighter. “This isn’t what I was expecting,” I muttered. “I just thought we were helping.”

“But you are helping,” Rowan replied. “You will rule in name only, still taking orders from Taliyah. She will fade into the background while she helps you rebuild. She has a plan. It’s just enforcing it with the right species,” he spat. “I don’t understand why the elders of the kingdom are so adamant about it, but they are sticklers for rules and tradition. Times have changed.” He gripped his fists.

“But…” He softened. “Queen Clara—”

“It is official then,” Sebastian interrupted, “she and Kane were made queen and king?”

“Yes, they were. To help save former Queen Eden. She was with child and had to flee to Earth. It wasn’t the best time for Clara, I’m sure, but it all worked out.” He grinned.

“Now, Queen Clara is giving you the option to say no. It was very clear that she did not want to order you, but your name escaped her lips as soon as Taliyah asked who would be best for the position. Clara trusts you and wants you both to take over.”

I bit the side of my cheek. There was a choice to make, which heavily depended on us. If we didn’t go, who would take our place? Could I ignore what the goddess had warned me about?

Sebastian’s heated gaze fell on my cheeks. He turned my head to him with his thumb on my chin. “We can say no,” he whispered. “It’s a lot, and I know you are still learning about your body. It’s still changing.” I let out a breath, feeling lighter that he would give me a choice. He was truly too good to me.

“No, I think we should do it,” I whispered.

Rowan let out a breath, rubbing his forehead. “Thank the goddess.” Adaline chuckled, petting his leg.

“You both will be wonderful. Clara spoke highly of you in the email she had sent us.”

“The internet works over there?” My eyes widened as I tilted my head.

“Better than it did. It is no longer spotty, thanks to Luna Charlotte. She’s become the technological go-to for fixing technology between realms. Now the sending of emails will be much more reliable, and we won’t have to use witches as much. Of course, the ways of magic will always be easier and expected. Adaline and I weren’t in front of a mirror to catch their messages, so she must have emailed instead.”

“Amazing,” I muttered, sitting back on the cushion. “I still have a lot to learn.” I gripped Sebastian tighter. “I’m not sure I’ll be that great of a ruler.” Sebastian petted the back of my hand, kissing my forehead.

“You will be magnificent. Just rule with your heart, and don’t worry. I believe Taliyah will keep us plenty busy and won’t have to think too much about it,” Sebastian soothed.

Rowan clapped his hands together. “Now, that being said. I’m sending a caravan to take you and many others that wish to cross to Bergarian in a few days’ time. It is best that you both gather your belongings, speak with your mother, and find out her plans as well.”

Rowan’s voice faded into the background as I pondered his words. I was officially leaving Earth, going into another realm I knew nothing about.

And I am scared shitless.

Chapter 44

Sebastian

“Oh,please.”Christinemoaned.Her hands were tied above her head against the iron headboard. She struggled against them, trying to pull free. Her strength had not fully come into play, but she was certainly testing the silk ropes. Her nails began pulling at the fabric, and I laughed darkly as I licked her nipple.

Biting softly on the underside of her breast, she gasped, her body wiggling against me. “Please,” she begged again. I loved it when she pleaded. I loved when she demanded me, and most of all, I loved her and everything that she was.

Christine had a slight panic attack, being told she would be queen. She worried if she would even be good enough to help maintain a kingdom. Constantly reminding her we were to follow Queen Taliyah’s orders from afar helped mollify her mind, but still being in the public eye around judgmental vampires had her tense. She was right. It would be difficult for her since she was now one of us, freshly turned and still having to eat regularly until her blood lust fever had faded.

My beloved could do it. I knew this because she was my mate. The gods even declared her fit to help run a country, a nation to be built from the ground up. It was all just a facade for the elder vampires, Parliament and Court. In the end, it would show that Queen Taliyah was competent, and the child that she would bear would run the country the same as her, no matter what his species might be.

We were being used as pawns, as the face of a new nation, but when the time was right, when we were allowed, we would tell them all it was former Queen Taliyah’s doing.

My fingers thrust into her pussy, two, then three at a time. My fangs bit into the soft underside of her breast, her blood seeping through the wounds and letting me lick her clean. Her arms pulled against the restraints, growling, leaving her throat.
