“Oh,” I said. “Okay then.”

Luke took his key off his keyring and slid it along the counter to me. “Thank you.”

I nodded. “You are very welcome. When are you leaving?”

“Tomorrow,” he said.

“Tonight,” Rin demanded.

Luke rolled his eyes. “We’ve already been through this. We’re leaving tomorrow.”

“Early,” Ezra added.

Luke groaned.

I chuckled. “Good luck working all that out.”

He shook his head. “These two have been impossible to live with ever since the plan was made.”

“I bet,” I said. “Well, I’m going to miss you.”

“Hey?” Ezra cried out. “Are we chopped liver?”

“The collective you, Ez. Not the singular,” I said with a smile.

He smiled. “I thought so.”

I shook my head. The radio station had been playing soft music until the weatherman came on, pulling my attention. I reached over and turned the knob.

“The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning…” the weatherman said.

“Oh, we may need to hear this,” I said, turning it up a little more.

Ezra and Rin joined Luke at the counter. They leaned closer slightly as the announcement continued.

“Whiteout conditions starting at ten and expected to continue until later this weekend,” the voice continued. “Passes may close.”

“Shit,” I said. “Are you sure you have to wait until the morning to leave?”

“Exactly what I said,” Ezra said.

Rin nodded.

Luke sighed. “For the last time, Toni said we can’t until tomorrow…”

“Yeah, but we could just camp out somewhere for the night,” Ezra said.

“Second,” Rin said, thumbing through some of the bagged candies.

Luke growled.

“The storm does sound like when it hits, it’s going to hit hard,” I said. “When is your cousin planning on stopping by?”

He shrugged. “Knowing him? Late.”

I nodded. “Well, I think you guys should get ahead of the storm, and please be safe, regardless of when you leave. I don’t want to hear of mysterious bodies being found on the passes in the spring.”

“Love you too,” Rin said with a smile.
