Maybe not as it was intended to work, but in the end, I did find love in three bear shifters who were the key to breaking the curse I had placed on myself.
EPILOGUE: CADENCE
I was working a normal shift when my brother and his two roommates walked through the door. Just in time too. I had just finished my tasks for the day and needed a distraction to help mepast the last few hours of my shift.
Luke approached the counter. I smiled at him. “What brings you three troublemakers by?”
“Do I really need a reason to come and see my sister?” Luke asked.
“Yes,” Rin said.
“Second,” Ezra said.
Luke glanced over his shoulder. Judging by the expression on his face seconds before the motion, it was to glare at them.
I sighed and shook my head. “Behave yourselves, gentlemen.”
“Anyway,” Luke started. “I came by to see you and to ask a favor.”
“Awww…” I said, sarcastically. “And no.”
He cocked his head to the side. A questioning gaze filled his features. “No?”
I shrugged, crossing my arms over my chest. “That’s what I said.”
Ezra and Rin stopped moving through the store and turned to watch the exchange between me and my brother. It took everything in me not to laugh.
Truth be told, I was pulling his chain. I would do anything for him if he asked, and I hoped this had something to do with Toni. I missed her. It had been a month since I last saw her, and I could tell the distance was wearing on the men too.
“You don’t even know what I was going to say,” Luke said.
“I don’t need to hear it,” I said.
“Cadence,” he said and then stammered.
I cracked. I couldn’t hold back my laugh any longer and let it burst forward. “You should see your face right now.”
He sighed. “You’re lucky you’re my sister.”
I snorted. “Please, I’m too pretty to be mad at.”
He smiled, shaking his head. “As I was saying…”
I chuckled. “Hurry up and spit it out already.”
He sucked in a breath. “I would if you would hush long enough for me to tell you.”
I gestured for him to continue.
“The boys and I are going to go spend the winter with Toni at her coven,” Luke said.
I sucked in a breath and squealed with excitement. “I hoped this had something to do with Toni!”
“Anyway,” Luke said, continuing. “Ezra’s cousin is going to keep an eye on the cabin while we’re gone. He’s supposed to stop by here to get the key, and we were hoping you would be willing to give the key to him and check on him from time to time.”
I shrugged. “Sure. I’ll give him the key… but I’m not sure I will be able to check on him much once the snow really hits. You think he’ll be okay on his own?”
Ezra snorted. “He will be fine.”
