We regrouped by the doors that led back into the building, and Chum and Bug shifted back to their naked human forms as Miss Sage brushed herself off. Mr. Baron joined us, nodding approvingly at Wayne and Paris as they strode over as well.

Everyone was looking rather worse for wear, but at least we were all in one piece.

Thank God.

“We’re damn lucky you guys showed up, those daggers came in handy,” Thomas stated as he twirled one of the said daggers in his hand.

“I’m glad we made it in time,” Wayne said as he holstered his gun, although he was still scanning the grounds carefully.

“Everyone inside and into the dining hall, it’s time to have a chat,” Miss Sage said abruptly as she fixed her hair and sighed.

“I thought you were staying inside?” Bug said as he stepped up beside me, and I had to fight the urge to trail my eyes over his naked form.

Now was not the time to be appreciating his body.

“I saw that you guys were struggling because they were angelics. I couldn’t just sit back and watch, what if someone got hurt or worse? I couldn’t live with myself. I had a feeling my hellfire would work on them,” I said in defense as I flicked my gaze between the two men beside me. No, my father had told me it would, and I believed him.

Chum just gave me a small smile, before he started following the crowd back inside, clearly not having a word to say on the matter. I dropped my gaze to his tight ass before I forced myself to look away. Definitely not the time for that.

“Still, it was dangerous for you to come out here. We need to keep you safe,” Bug said firmly, still slipping his hand in mine as we walked. I knew he was upset, but grateful I hadn’t been hurt.

“Make sure you guys get some clothes on the way,” Hadley said as she stepped up beside Chum, smirking as she focused ahead.

“Yeah, we don’t need those sexy bodies to distract us while we’re trying to focus on this shitshow,” Diane added with a gleeful grin as she darted past us. “Those are some damn fine asses.”

I snorted as she giggled while running off ahead.

My smile instantly dropped as I realized how serious the situation was. We’d just been attacked by angelic demonics. Who was creating them anyway? A part of me was curious to how as well. Clearly, they possessed both powers from the two sides. Which made killing them a fair bit harder without the right weapons.

Chum and Bug separated from us to collect some clothes while I continued on to the dining hall with Xander in tow.

I felt bad for leaving him inside, especially since he had tried hard to hold the creatures at bay with his compound bow. What could he do? He was strong, but not overly masterful with any of the weapons. And killing those things with his bare hands wasn’t exactly going to work. Being part angelic, they’d kill him with ease. He was only just getting the real hang of the compound bow now too.

He looked rather dejected as we hurried to the dining hall. I wasn’t sure how he’d hoped to protect me if it came down to it, but I was glad he’d been willing to anyway.

We filed into the dining hall, but no one took their seats, instead just standing around uneasily as Miss Sage and Mr. Baron stood at the head of the table.

I shifted my weight between my feet, a pit settling in my stomach.

We’d gotten lucky this time around. But if Paris and Wayne hadn’t shown up… just the thought made me sick to my stomach.

No one spoke a word until Chum and Bug re-joined us, and the pair hurried over to stand on either side of me like proud warriors. It did comfort me having them both there with me.

Miss Sage clasped her hands together as her eyes swept over all of us.

“Thank you for your quick actions in helping destroy the creatures that plagued the Academy grounds. I know you’ve all been wondering what’s been going on lately, and why Dezikiel has been gone so long. We have been keeping it from you for now while we got more intel, but with this attack, it’s time for us to explain everything,” Miss Sage said with a sigh as she shook her head sadly. “I’m sorry to say that we got word that Dezikiel and his contact were jumped, and we lost all contact with them. We have no idea where he is or what’s happened despite our best efforts,” she explained as her eyes trailed over all of us.

My chest tightened as my heart skipped a beat at this news. Was Dezikiel even still alive? Surely he could handle himself, being a fallen angel and all?

“From my understanding and from what Dezikiel has told me before he left, there is certainly corruption in the High Council, and they seem to be targeting Lily,” Miss Sage said as her eyes fell on me.

Everyone turned to look at me, now that our fears were confirmed.

I shifted uneasily as I gritted my teeth, but neither Bug nor Chum seemed fazed by this.

I averted my gaze, hating the sudden scrutiny I was under.
