We stood like that for a few moments before we finished up, washing one another and sneaking kisses along the way.

I stepped out of the shower and grabbed my towel as Bug did the same once he shut the water off, and I headed into the bedroom to get dressed.

I stiffened as I stepped into the room and found Chum sitting on the edge of the bed with a wicked grin. My face burned as I just stood there awkwardly, lost for words.

“How was it?” Chum asked as he cocked his head at me.

“Wonderful,” Bug answered as he stepped up behind me.

I fumbled for words, and Chumley just laughed softly, taking delight at my expense.

“Relax, Lily. We’re not jealous of each other, just happy,” Chum assured me.

“Right,” I murmured, still struggling to understand that as my face burned and my heart hammered.

“What did Miss Sage want you for?” Bug asked as he strode over to his set of drawers and dropped his towel.

Chumley did not seem at all bothered by this as he frowned instead.

“She wanted my help in the kitchen with organizing food. There’s only a few keepers now, which is strange,” Chum said, and Bug gave him an odd look as he pulled on a pair of briefs.

I just stood in my towel, annoyed that I hadn’t thought of bringing fresh clothes. Not that it was that far to my room anyway.

“That’s weird,” Bug said softly as he continued to get dressed.

“Yeah, Miss Sage is worried by it too,” Chum said with a nod before he turned to me.

“Where would the keepers be?” I asked.

“The keepers are created from angel magic. It’s possible the angels have decided to withdraw their magic,” Bug offered his thoughts on it.

“What if the angel dies?” I asked carefully.

“The keepers are not created by the magic of one angel, but by many. The type of magic infused in them means that if any of the angels die, even all of them, the keepers will remain for some time,” Bug explained.

“So, withdrawing their magic seems like the only reasoning then,” I muttered, my heart skipping a beat at the thought.

Why would the angels withdraw their magic?

“It’s the only logical explanation,” Bug said, his brow furrowed.

“Why?” I asked the question we all wanted to know, but my two hellhounds just gave me uncertain looks.

I sighed, knowing they weren’t going to suddenly know.

Still, it was awfully worrying.

Perhaps Miss Sage or Mr. Baron could provide more answers over lunch.

For now, I needed to get dressed.
