By the time the sun began to filter in through the library window, I had a bit of an idea of what I would try to do. Even if I was nervous.
Hopefully I would be able to perform.
I found myself on the second floor and standing before Hadley’s bedroom door, knocking briskly and hoping she was already awake.
Instead, Diane’s bright face greeted me as she flung the door open with a confused look.
“Jack, what’s up?” Hadley called out from within her room.
Diane stepped aside to let me in, and they both looked like they’d been up a while already.
I sat down at Hadley’s desk as Diane perched beside her sister on the bed, both looking at me expectantly.
“How’s Connor?” I asked, clearing my throat at the way they were both smirking at me, like they somehow had an idea as to why I was here.
“He’s good,” Hadley shrugged. Connor was a guy she had started seeing outside of the Academy, she’d met him when she’d gone shopping for Lily, and she now spent a few afternoons with him.
Lily spoke to her often about her new beau, and Hadley loved sharing all the details.
Including that she’d started sleeping with him.
“Why are you really here?” Diane demanded as she cocked her head at me with a sly smile. “You seem on edge.”
“I need… advice,” I said slowly as I flicked my gaze wildly between the two women.
Why did I feel like I was suddenly in dangerous water, like I’d become some small prey creature to two large cats waiting to rip into me and tear me apart?
“What advice?” Hadley grinned.
“Well, Lily…” I paused, uncertain how to continue.
“Let me guess, things are heating up, and you’re thinking of taking things to the next level?” Hadley said, as if it was blatantly obvious.
“She’s spoken to us about it too. I still can’t believe she’s got all four of you hounding after her. Then again, you are her hellhounds,” Diane said with a shrug before chuckling at her words.
“I spoke with the others, they think I should be the one to… go first,” I said slowly as I tugged at the collar of my shirt. I hated talking about this, the nervousness that it was bringing on was not something I liked.
“Shouldn’t that be up to her?” Diane frowned.
“Why?” Hadley said almost immediately after.
“Apparently, they think I’d be the most gentle with her, since I have the most control over my hellhound,” I explained, shifting uneasily under their scrutinizing gazes.
“I guess that’s true. Being a virgin, gentle is a must. And if they get caught up in the moment, they could accidentally hurt her,” Diane nodded.
“So, what advice do you want?” Hadley asked as she leaned back against the head of the bed.
“Is there anything you think I should do in particular? Anything to make it more special. I’ve been researching and studying, I just… I want to get it right,” I sighed.
“Awwwww.” Diane made a face before laughing and clapping her hands as Hadley grinned.
“That’s so cute. Man, I wish my first guy had been that thoughtful,” Hadley cooed.
“Well, you want her to be comfortable and relaxed. That’s the main thing. And make sure she wants to do it too and is prepared. Oh, I’m not sure if she’s on the pill,” Hadley glanced at Diane, who just shrugged. “So you’ll need condoms, do you have condoms? Do hellhounds need condoms? Can they reproduce?”
“No, we can’t. We’re not designed for reproduction. Hellhounds are created from hellfire, not intercourse,” I explained. It was something that I’d learned when talking to Dezikiel once about why so little was known about hellhounds.
“Intercourse,” Diane snickered, and I rolled my eyes.
