Page 41 of It'll Always Be Her

“Why did you ask her to find you a date?” He couldn’t stop the growling undercurrent in his voice.

“Because I haven’t found one on my own in at least eight months, if not longer.” Her voice was light, but her eyes were locked on his. “I wanted to…um, put myself out there a little.”

“You don’t need to put yourself out anywhere,” Adam snapped.

She lifted her eyebrows. “If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were jealous.”

“I’m not jealous.”

“Oh, sorry.” She frowned, though amusement gleamed in her brown eyes. “But the smoke coming out of your ears and that snarl in your voiceproveotherwise.”

“Don’t go out with any of the toothpaste models.” He moved closer, pushing his knees against hers. “They’re the wrong kind of man for you.”

“How would you know?” Bee tsked a little. “We just met yesterday. You have no idea what kind of man is right for me.”

“Yes, I do.”

“Who?”

Me.

He bit the word back before it could break free. And then he closed the distance between them and brought his mouth down on hers.

Bee gasped. The little sound spilled right into his blood, and heat flooded him. He half expected her to pull away, but she didn’t.

After a second of stillness, she edged closer, her body leaning in to his. He wrapped his hand around the back of her neck. Her lips were softer than he’d imagined, and she tasted both spicy and sweet, like cinnamon sugar.

His pulse kicked up, sending his heart rate soaring. He fought the urge to crush her against him, to devour her, claim her. The last thing he wanted was to give her another reason to dislike him, though her reaction to him now was anything but hostile.

She responded to his kiss, settled her hand on his knee, let him angle her face so he could slant his mouth more firmly against hers.

Already he was hard and aching. Thought fell away. He pulled her closer. Her breasts pressed into his chest. Her nipples were stiff, and the contact sent another bolt of urgency through him.

The world distilled into the hot sensation of her body against his. He’d wanted a taste of her, but he should have known better. Now he couldn’t get enough of her. He didn’t know if he’d ever be able to.

Kissing her was like discovering a delicious oasis in the middle of a dry, sweltering desert. You’d have to be an idiot to want to leave.

He speared his other hand into her thick hair. Bee parted her lips, her hot breath brushing his skin.

With a groan, he slid his tongue into the warmth of her mouth. Heat pooled in his groin, making his—

“They’re creepy and they’re kooky…”

Bee jerked away from him, her eyes widening.

Adam dragged in a breath. Lust burned through his veins.

“They’re all together ooky…”

His gaze clashed with Bee’s for an instant before they both turned to stare at his cell phone on the table. The screen was lit up, the phone vibrating.

But less than half an hour ago, he’d powered it completely off.
