The drive home has Sophie asking questions, obviously confused, but soon enough, we’re at home. She rubs her eyes and smiles a little. “I missed home.”
“Did you?” I ask.
She nods and kisses my cheek. “A lot. Paris is beautiful and I liked our suite, but this … this is ours.”
I beam and see Holden making a b-line to his office. Sophie shrugs and takes my hand. “Nap?”
“I just woke up.” I shrug. “I’m sorry, sweetheart.”
“Means I get the cuddles first.” Gunner sticks out his tongue. “Come on, wifey.”
She giggles as he sweeps her up and carries her honeymoon style to his room. I have a feeling that she’s going to be bouncing between our beds for at least the next few nights before we join her in her bed.
The first week back at work is actual hell. I can barely focus, the urge to nap is so strong, that I give into it at lunch the first two days and bypass food entirely. But Sophie is still glowing and bright, all excited to cook dinner for us and have game nights. I’m pretty sure that if we weren’t here with her, we’d all be zombies.
Even Roman gets into game night when we play a zombie board game. When Sophie gets ‘wounded’ Gunner bites her playfully, making her giggle, and then she uses a medicine on her wound. When Roman gets bitten Sophie looks at him, ready to jump across the table and willingly play the role of Zombie.
It’s adorable and Roman still grunts when she sinks her teeth into him. He swats her bottom. “We need to talk about acceptable versus unacceptable biting.”
She covers her mouth. “Was that too hard?”
A slow smile spreads over his face and she looks down at how she’s sitting on his lap. “Oh.”
“And you’re going to have to finish what you start.”
“But the game.”
“You’re going to play from right here, pants free.”
It definitely spices up the game. Sophie plays clumsily until both she and Roman come. I think we’re all fishing to get bit after that, but Sophie treats us all to the same, even if the positions change.
The next week is more of the same. We have a group date night that ends in group sex, along with plenty of fun on our own time.
Honestly, living with her as our wife is heaven.
On week three, I get a page in my office. “Your wife is here for lunch.”
A huge smile spreads over my face, but I hear one of the HR reps whisper that she’s not just my wife which raises the eyebrows of the others. When I shoot a look their way, the girl quiets despite the questioning gazes still on her face.
No one will dare ask any of us directly.
Sophie’s standing in the lobby, talking to her father. I catch the tail end of the conversation. “I mean it, little lady. You are not to distract them while at work.”
“It’s for lunch. It’s not like I’m walking up to his office either. I’m behaving.” She says seriously. “I do still work here, right?”
“Of course you do.” His tone softens. “I just need to keep things as professional as possible and all of your men seem to turn to goo every time they just look at you, honey.”
“I know.” She hugs him. “I’m only coming for lunch dates, and I never go over an hour. I promise.”
“We’ll behave, Dad.” I tease.
He narrows his eyes. “Listen here, Nicky.” My dad says with a smile threatening his face from one side.
“No fighting,” Sophie says immediately. “I only have you for an hour, come on.”
She whisks me to the sushi place where we first had lunch together. When I realize it, her lips curl into a smile that she can’t contain. “I thought with all the newness and the craziness, you’d like a reminder from way back when.”
“I love you, so much, sweetheart.” I take her hand in mine and kiss her knuckles. “You’re so thoughtful and just the right amount of sweet to dirty ratio.” I wink and she lets out a little giggle.
