But I can’t quite make my brain take that as a punishment. I’m too excited when Roman sets me down in the limo with all four of my husbands. There’s no way this smile is leaving my face anytime soon.
GUNNER
While Sophie was dancing with her mom, I made a bet with the guys that Sophie passes out in the car. If she does, we agreed to let her sleep. We can wait one more night for sex. Being with Sophie is worth that. Even if I don’tlovethe idea after so long without her.
Sophie and Roman finally join us in the limo. She dabs at her eyes, then rubs her forehead. “Can someone let my hair out? This headache is getting intense.”
“All these pins,” I huff, trying to gently work them out so I don’t hurt her.
“Did you have fun, Sophie?” Holden asks.
“I did. Everything was perfect. You guys have given me the world and I never should have expected anything less from any of you.”
I smile and Nick speaks up next. “No regrets?”
“I’m sure I’ll have a few when we see the bill.”
I glance at Roman and he shakes his head while pulling another two pins from her hair. I feel around for more, find one I almost missed, and pull that out too. We play with Sophie’s hair, letting the deep auburn curls trail down her shoulders.
The silence has tipped her off though, just like I knew it would. “Iwillsee the bill, won’t I?”
“Sophie-”
“I only got to pay for half my dress! We’re a team, I have to help with the wedding too!” She argues.
“Your dad paid for half. Said it’s tradition.” Nick caves. “Speaking of your dad, did you see how your mom was looking at him when he gave that little toast.”
“Like she was ready to jump his bones.” I agree. “She pounced on him like a tiger in heat.”
But Sophie glowers at us for a long moment. “We’re supposed to be equal in this relationship. Going forward, we’re splitting everything.”
It’s hard to argue with her. I have a feeling that’s going to be the theme for the rest of my life. And I don’t hate it.
We agree and all talk about our favorite parts of the night. I sigh. “Other than hearing Sophie’s vows, I loved seeing Nonna and Holden dance. It was cute.”
Holden rolls his eyes. “Seeing you, Sophie, coming down the aisle. Nothing can compare to that.”
She blushes and leans her head on my shoulder. Nick nods. “Other than that – dancing with my mom. She told me how much she wants to have us all over for Christmas and how excited she is to welcome Sophie into the family.”
“Getting to marry you on paper.” Roman murmurs.
Sophie perks up a little. “What?”
“After my long time girlfriend left before I could propose … I thought marriage was out for me. I didn’t think I could trust anyone to marry. And then you came around and I was able to be the one you marry on paper … seeing our names together, knowing that you trust me, watching you sign it … Sophie, it was so important to me. I didn’t expect that to be almost better than the ceremony itself.”
“Roman.” She says softly and I see her take his hand. “I love you all so much. I can’t pick a single moment. The vows from all of you were so amazing, how each ceremony was different and yet perfect it was … a test of waterproof makeup.”
We chuckle.
“I loved dancing with you, Hold, and seeing you have so much fun with everyone. Nick, that drawing you gave me right before I walked down the aisle … meant so much to me. Gunner, you just … you’re so thoughtful, and the way we talked while doing pictures and dancing kept reminding me about all the little things we’ve shared. Roman … you were so open and honest and let go of the reigns all night…. I love you all so much.”
The drive back to the hotel isn’t very long. That was the plan. It would be just enough time to get through one round of us sharing Sophie, but after such a meaningful conversation, I don’t want to push anything. So I just hold her while she kicks off her heels and lets Roman rub her feet. Holden asks Nick about how he handled all the people and I congratulate Holden on doing so well at the reception.
He actually got on the dance floor with me! And Roman and I had danced too, which is ridiculous, but Sophie says how much she loved seeing it so that makes it all worth it. The radio takes over and by the time we get to the hotel, I realize Sophie is asleep.
She rolls against me, getting more comfortable. I adjust her. “Soph, we have to go inside.”
“Comfy.” She argues.
