“Good.” I turn toward my building.
We walk up to my apartment in silence. A wide yawn takes over Lex, and she covers her mouth a second too late. Her cheeks turn pink.
“I could use a nap.”
“Then you’ll have a nap. We have time.”
“Don’t tempt me with a good time,” her eyebrows dance on her forehead.
I unlock the door to my apartment and wait for her to walk in. “What’s it going to be? A shower or a nap?”
“A shower, and then I’m going to nap while my hair air dries. It’s perfect,” another yawn interrupts her comment.
“Uh, huh.” I nod, dropping my keys in the glass bowl on the table by the entrance. “I’ll take your bag to your room. The bathroom has towels and soap and all the good stuff you need.” I went to the store yesterday during my lunch break to buy shampoo, conditioner, and the soap she always uses.
“Thanks.” She kisses my cheek before following me to the guest bedroom. As much as I’d love to hold her through the night, I’m giving her space.
“Anything for you.” I’ve never meant something as much as I do those words. I’d do anything for Lex.
“Hey, there, stranger,” Tristan walks out of his room with a wide smile. Thank goodness this apartment has three bedrooms. “How was the conference?”
“It was great,” Lex gives him a sleepy smile.
“I’m glad to hear that. Hudson’s been hogging you, but maybe we can all hang out tomorrow.”
“That’d be fun.” Lex looks at me.
“Yeah. Jameson and Willa want to meet Lex, too. We can all do something.”
“Are these your friends you were telling me about?” Her eyebrows lift.
“Yup.”
“Great,” Tristan claps my shoulder. “I’m going to grab something to eat in the kitchen. I’ve been working for too long.”
Lex raises her eyebrows, but I shrug. Tristan is being too secretive about some of his work, and I’m not going to get into it unless he wants me to. Chances are he’s scheming a plan to get that trust fund on his twenty-fifth birthday.
As I set Lex’s suitcase by the foot of the bed, she takes out her bun. Mesmerized, I watch her hair cascade down her shoulders. It’s messy and perfect. She’s a sight for sore eyes. Stunning, perfect, all mine.
“Stop staring.” Her eyebrows dip, and she screws her face.
“Never.” I loop my arm around her and pull her to me. “I want to spend the rest of my life staring at you.”
Her breath catches, her eyes dancing between mine.
“Go shower,” I whisper. She nods silently and heads to the bathroom while I walk out of the room and go into the kitchen for some water. Having her here for the next two nights is going to be a challenge to my self-restraint. I could spend every hour kissing her.
“Dinner was delicious.” Lex rubs her stomach as we walk down the sidewalk.
“I’m glad you liked it. Charlie Bird is a must-try here.” I’m glad she liked the restaurant. Her eyes lit up when she saw the original brick mixed with an industrial design.
“The scallops were to die for. And the burrata…goodness gracious.” She licks her lips, and I laugh at her overreaction.
“I was hoping you’d like it.
“Loved it.” She looks over at me with a lazy grin. It’s the look of a fully stuffed woman, but I’m not done with her just yet.
“This isn’t in the direction of your apartment, is it?”
