“Yeah, well, you still need time off. Go get in bed with Ty tonight and don’t leave for at least 24 hours.”
“Sounds good to me. Thanks.” I smile.
Ally raises her cup up in the air. “Welcome to the Taylor brothers club.”
Laughing, we all clink our plastic cups together as the fire crackles and burns bright in front of us. “Glad to be a member.”
Chapter 20
It’s sometime after midnight that people start to disperse. Ally, Ash, Mel, and Courtney have already left with their men, and I’ve been sitting alone on the hay bale closest to the water for a good twenty minutes now.
The fire has died down to a low glow, and I’ve been listening to the waves break on the rocks below while taking in the night sky. I’ve never seen a shooting star before tonight, and now I’ve seen four.
It’s a sight to behold.
With the first two, I didn’t need to wish on them because I was already granted everything I wanted in the moment. But these last two? Those I made sure to wish on, just for good measure.
I wished for this – me and Tyler – to be real and everlasting, and I wished to always know that every day I wake up, is a day to cherish. I’ve spent too many in my life just skating along the surface. I didn’t know I was, but being with Tyler showed me that. I feel everything deeper when I’m with him. I want to be better. I want to be worthy of him.
He may say I’m too good for him, but if that’s true, then he’s too good for me.
“Hey, sugar, you ready to head in?” Tyler places his hands on my shoulders from behind, and I lean back against him.
“Do you need help cleaning up?”
“That’s for the morning. Right now, I need to get you in my bed and not leave for a very long time.”
Smiling, I look up at him, and he plants a kiss on my forehead. “I was just making a wish on a shooting star. Before tonight, I’ve never seen one.”
“Really?”
“Mhmm. Too much light pollution. And I never went anywhere where I could see so many stars. It’s so beautiful,” I say softly.
“What did you wish for?”
“I can’t tell you, then it won’t come true. But I will say that this little town has a way of bringing someone exactly what they need, when they need it most in life.”
“There is a certain something, isn’t there?”
“Yes,” I sigh. “But mostly that something is you.”
Kissing my cheek, Tyler squeezes my shoulders and then slides his hands down my chest, palming my breasts through my sweater.
“Come inside with me and I’ll show you just how happy I am you came here.”
“That would sound a lot dirtier if it was me who said that.”
Laughing, he kisses the sensitive flesh right below my ear and rubs his palms up and down my breasts. “I’d love to hear you talk dirty to me, sugar.”
“Is everyone gone?”
“Mhmm. The last people just left.”
“Good.” Standing, I climb up on the hay bale I was sitting on and place my hands on his shoulders. At this height, I’m a few inches taller than him, and it makes me feel like I have a little more power over him, even just for a minute.
Tyler grips my ass and pulls me against him. “Wrap your legs around me.”
“What if I wanted you to carry me fireman’s style?”
