That was a loaded question, and one he wasn’t going to answer because he’d have to be honest, and that would start another fight. “Patch things up with Troy.”

She tilted her head. “You punched him when you found out about us.”

“That was a different time,” he said. “He’s a good man, and if you care about him, you’ll figure your shit out and let all this stuff with my family and me go.” For good measure, Jamison leaned in and kissed her cheek. “I’ll see you around.” He pulled open the driver’s side door.

She slipped behind the steering wheel, obviously unsure of what to say. It was rare that Cheryl was at a loss for words, but when she was, it meant that she might actually be contemplating the current topic.

Stuffing his hands into his pockets, he waited until her car disappeared down the street before heading back inside. Thankfully, Zadie was still sound asleep. He glanced at his watch. He understood not wanting people in your life who had wronged you, he could respect that. His only concern was that maybe Bryn would want to know about Brenda’s death. But maybe she already knew. It wasn’t for him to judge.

He decided it was time to sweep Bryn off her feet with some of his grandmother’s awesome cooking. Actually, he decided it was time to show Bryn his place. She might enjoy the view and maybe a nice hot tub soak after dinner.

Maybe even a little snuggling under the moon and stars.
