“I won’t, but we might need her help. And Dad’s. And not to bring up a sore subject, but Steve’s money might help with—”
“I get it,” Jamison said. “I’m willing to do whatever it takes to help Bryn and Zadie, so if it comes to that, I’ll do it.”
“Wow. You must really care about this girl.”
“I do,” Jamison said. “I love her. But that’s not the only reason I’d be willing to ask Mom and Steve for help.”
Rhett cocked his head. “Excuse me?”
“I’ll never accept Steve as my dad. I have one of those. But I can accept the biology, and he does have four kids who are my half-siblings. Besides, I can’t deny that he loves our mom. I’m tired of being angry and hurt. I’m sick of harboring resentment over shit that I can’t control.” He waved his hand in front of the computer. “All this shit, and my love for Bryn and her daughter, has taught me that holding on to shit from the past does nothing but keep you there. Mom and Dad made mistakes. Steve made them, too. They have all said they’re sorry, and I know they mean it. It’s time for me to grow the fuck up and be a man.”
“It took you falling in love with a woman and her baby to figure that out?”
Jamison chuckled. “I guess so.”
Rhett slapped him on the back. “Why don’t you get the fuck out of my house and get back to your new woman? Let me do the private investigative work.”
“Sounds good to me.”
