Before I manage to get the warning out, he falls backward into the pool. The capybaras jump in after him, and his arms flail as he attempts to avoid them.

“I guess it’s a good thing you’re not an action hero,” I say and offer him my hand.

He ignores me and hops out of the pool on his own. His shirt is soaked and clinging to his chest. Each and every striation of his chest muscles is outlined by the material. My mouth waters. I know how smooth and warm those muscles are. They’re infinitely lick-able.

He smirks. “Notice anything you fancy?” His words remind me of what a scumbag he is.

“Nope. Just checking your shirt isn’t ripped from the capybaras ‘attacking’ you.”

He shudders. “I’m going to…” He doesn’t bother finishing his sentence before he scurries out of the enclosure.

I don’t wait until he’s gone before I let the laugh I’ve been containing roar out of me.

“Good job, sweet things. We won’t be seeing him anytime soon.”

And, no, those words don’t cause my stomach to sour. Nope. I am done with Maverick Langston. D. O. N. E. Done.
