“Shit,” he eventually chuckled as our breathing started to even out and he wrapped his arm around me.
I grinned up at him.
“I’m sorry, I sort of lost my head then,” he said, rolling a little so he could face me.
“Don’t apologize. It was fucking incredible.” I wasn’t sure I’d ever felt anything like it. Would every time be like that with him? If so, I was glad I’d waited… “So, what now?” I murmured nervously, pulling back so I could watch his micro expressions. Where did we go from here?
He half smiled again. “I guess that depends on you.”
“What do you want to happen?” I hedged. Less than an hour ago he’d been trying to run me out of this city, and now…
He sighed but gripped my hips to pull me back closer to him.
“Well Cait, I want to fuck you until I can barely remember my own name. Then I want to marry you.”
Ha.He’d already done the first part… so next came…
“In that order, huh?” I chuckled nervously, slipping my hands around his neck to knot my fingers in his curls. He’d sure changed his mind quick… and that made me beyond anxious. But this union had been a long time coming. It wasn’t like we’d just met.
“In that order,” he confirmed. His nose brushed mine, warning me he was about to kiss me again.
Jesus.
Marriage…
“That wasn’t a very romantic proposal you know,” I said as he pressed his lips to mine.
He nuzzled my cheek, moving down to my neck. “But do you accept?”
“What about Bree? Cullen? Do you think he will condone us?” I frowned, contemplating having to tell Cullen and Bree that we were together, but we were adults now. They couldn’t tell us how to live our lives.
He took my hands, placing a kiss on each of my knuckles, leaving my ring finger for last. “He will have to.”
My heart throbbed as I watched his lips caressing the place where one day I’d wear a wedding ring. His ring. If I wanted it.
Did I?
I wanted to be with him, I knew that… but marriage?
What if he was right? What if it wasn’t safe for me to stay? He’d been so adamant I was in danger, but now he wanted me at his side… right in the line of fire?
It didn’t make sense.
Don’t think about that now.
Cullen was still a way off retiring… we would have years to figure out how to keep everyone safe.
Years where we could be together. Aidan wouldn’t let anyone hurt me. He would protect his family. He wouldn’t make the same stupid decisions that Cullen had. Our peace with the Italians was still in place despite what they’d done to Bree… everything would be alright.
“Yes,” I said suddenly, studying his eyes.
He glanced up at me with hooded eyes, and desire immediately flamed across my skin. If he didn’t stop, I was going to need him to do all that again.
A smile swept across his lips.
“I love you, Cait.”
