“Go away,” he murmured against her mouth. When her lips parted in a smile he took full advantage and delighted in her needy gasp. She tasted so good. He would never stop kissing her.
“Gavin...” Laurel whispered.
“Shhh.” He nibbled at her lips.
She chuckled. “Gavin... they’re coming.”
Sure enough, footsteps were growing louder.
Voices too.
“Where’d they run off to?”
“Just text him.”
“I already did. He’s not answering.”
Breathless, Gavin set his forehead against hers. “I’m gonna kill ’em.”
Laurel leaned back, smoothed his hair down, then straightened his tie. “Be nice. They’re just happy for us.”
When she stepped away, he caught her around the waist and pulled her back against him. “If they’re really happy for us they’ll offer to babysit for our honeymoon, which will last about a decade because that’s how long it’ll take to get my fill of you.”
Her eyes flared with heat—and there was that look that used to knock him right off his feet. He pulled her closer.
“Behave, Robinson.”
His family—every last one of ’em—rounded the corner and came up short at the sight of them.
“Oh, there you are,” Mom said.
Reluctantly, Gavin let Laurel go.
“We thought we’d go out to celebrate.” Avery arched a brow. “But looks like you got a head start.”
Gavin scowled. “Which you interrupted, by the way.”
Laurel elbowed him. “We’d love to go. How about the Trailhead? We can swing by the house and pick up Emma and my mom on the way.”
“Wonderful idea!” Mom said.
Jeff tugged Mom’s hand. “We’ll go now and grab a table.”
The group headed back the way they’d come.
“See you there,” Laurel called, then grabbed Gavin’s hand. “Come on, grumpy. Let’s go tell Emma we’re her forever family.”
The words caught him by the heart.Emma.She was really theirs. They were going to raise that sweet little girl. They were going to be a real family.
Gavin returned her smile. “Well... when you put it like that.”
Epilogue
Laurel slipped inside the back of the Robinsons’ house, the music fading as the door closed behind her. She carried the empty glasses to the sink and paused to watch the shindig going on in the backyard.
A small crowd had gathered for Avery and Wes’s wedding reception: family, close friends, Avery’s staff from the clinic. Speaking of which, on the makeshift dance floor, Lucy, Avery’s doctor in residence, was getting down with her boyfriend, Rick Rodriguez.
A little distance away the newlywed couple was finding their own groove. Avery was beautiful in her sophisticated white gown, her veil long gone. She and Wes made a gorgeous couple. They’d come through a lot to be together, and Laurel was so happy they’d found their way to each other.
