Titus raised a blond brow. “You’ve already spoken to Julian about my finer qualities, have you?”

“Well, I wouldn’t go that far.”

“So it’s settled then. You’ll help Sunny and me to convince your mate to relinquish control of Laurel Cove to me and end the incursions once and for all.”

I almost laughed. Almost thought he was kidding. “The day Julian gives up Laurel Cove is the day I set my hair on fire and walk across the river.”

“Yes, I didn’t think you’d be amenable to that suggestion. Such a shame too. I hear the cove has problems keeping their vampires fed and happy.”

“That’s an outright lie.”

“Is it?” Titus’s gaze bored into me. “Then why did its new queen rip into several humans during her transition from human to vampire?”

I froze, muscles locking down so hard I would have grimaced in pain if I could have. “What did you say?” I hissed when I was able.

“Julian did a fine job covering your stench at the incursion, but the moment you broke the bond, your true nature revealed itself.”

My stomach bottomed out.

He knew. This whole time, Titus knew.

And that meant…

“Do you actually care whether I’m made or not? Does it honestly matter to you or your life?”

Titus hissed at me, and I instinctively reached for my dominance as a shield.

And instead of finding an empty vault, a black wave of power poured from me, filling Titus’s entire office.

Fucking sweet!

I stood, letting vamp magic roll off me in velvety waves. “I won’t cow to you, Titus. And I won’t accept your judgment simply because of your archaic views on vampires. If you have a legitimate issue with me as a mate match for Julian, as a queen, or as a friend to you mate, then I’ll hear it. Otherwise, you can shut your big old mouth on the matter.”

Titus was, for lack of a better word, gobsmacked.

His lips slightly parted, icy gaze taking in the swirling mess of power I’d unleashed in his room.

“I see you’ve mended the rift between you and Julian.”

“No. We mended the rift. He and I together. And I suggest, if you want to have any chance of ending the war between the two of you, you consider doing the same.”
