“Maybe,” I huffed.

“Do you want to call him?” Sunny reached over me and grabbed the phone.

“No. He still needs to apologize. He needs to see it from my perspective as well.”

Sunny inclined her head. “Fair enough.”

As Sunny set the phone back on the end table, it rang, pulling a startled cry from everyone in the room. B included.

The three of us shared a spooked glance before Sunny finally answered the call.

“Hello?” Her voice was strong and confident as always, but she didn’t hide the worried crease in her brow.

I tuned in to the other end of the conversation. “Sunsiray, I’m glad I caught you.”

“Titus. I didn’t expect to hear from you.” Sunny relaxed into a seated position, but that furrow remained between her brows.

“Yes, well, I thought I might entice you into my company with an invitation to dine with me. Tonight. Say, eight?”

The tip of Sunny’s nose blushed at Titus’s offer. “It’s a date,” she said quietly.

“Wonderful. I’ll collect you from the mate suite then.” Titus disconnected the call.

“Sunny—” I started warily, but she cut me off before I got another word in.

“I know, I know. He said he’d ‘collect’ me, but I swear he isn’t like that anymore. It’s just a posh way of saying he’ll pick me up.”

I hadn’t even noticed that bit. “Sun, I was going to say I thought the plan was for the three of us to stick together. Safety in numbers, remember? Also, you don’t eat anymore, so what’s with the dinner invite?”

“We did agree to stay together. But Titus won’t be worried about you or Rory if I’m distracting him.”

“True.”

“And I can eat. I just don’t need to. Dates are still fun, though. And as you noticed, Titus doesn’t drink from the vein any longer. Something I plan on asking him about tonight. But I imagine since he doesn’t, he does need to eat. Anyway, you two should use the time to explore the tower and stretch your legs. We’ve been holed up in here for hours.”

Seemed like a good plan.

B stood, peering down at both of us. “Keep your phone on you at all times. Keep the ringer on. I don’t care if it’s rude. We’ll do the same. If one of us is in trouble, the others will drop what we’re doing immediately, agreed?”

Sunny and I both nodded.

“Well, I have to go get ready. If you’ll excuse me,” she said and sauntered over to her bathing suit.

“Hey, have you checked out her bathroom?”

B shook his head as we left the bedroom to give her some space.

“You should. It’s like a whole-ass vacation in there.”

“You want to grab some food while she’s busy not eating with Titus?”

“That actually sounds like a great idea.”

After another call to Sherrie, where B asked about local restaurants, and an excruciatingly adorable exchange between them, he and I were seated in a quaint restaurant with a limited menu and even more limited clientele. I wasn’t sure what theme they were going for here, but whatever it was, it wasn’t working.

And this was Sherrie’s favorite restaurant?

They served overcooked pasta in a bread bowl.
