Hopefully, they’d get more specific in Chapter 2.

Except, it didn’t. Chapter two and three were both dismal recountings of all the ways to protect yourself against vampires, none of which were accurate, and in fact, may further provoke a vampire to bite your whole neck off.

Running in zig-zags? That’s only going to incite a predatory response. And wasn’t that for guns, anyway?

Eating tons of garlic. I mean, most people found garlic breath offensive, and vamps had more sensitive senses of smell, but stinky breath wasn’t going to keep a hungry bloodlusty vamp from attacking you.

I chucked the book at the table, drawing stares from both my study buddies.

“Did you not like that book?” B asked with a grin.

I rolled my eyes and turned to Sunny. “Was I that annoying when I was going through bonding with Julian?”

Sunny covered her mouth with her hand. “Only most of the time,” she said around a grin she couldn’t keep from her voice.

“Lies,” I quipped and picked another book at random from the pile. “Have you guys found anything interesting? Anything I should know and don’t?”

“Honestly? Most of the info I’ve come across you already know from experience, Eden,” Sunny said. “Rory was right when he said you’d figured out a lot already.”

I didn’t feel ready. Not even a little. I hadn’t been properly brought into the world of vamps from the start, and because of that, I’d spent most of my time with humans. And one wolf shifter I didn’t know was a wolf shifter.

Now, I was trying to play catch up, and I wasn’t sure if I’d ever reach the end. Be caught up.

Before I go too far into my next book, my phone buzzed in my pocket.

I couldn’t contain my smile as I reached for it, thinking it was Julian with some sweet, surprising message.

But it wasn’t Julian texting.

It was Jaxson.

Get to the packlands now. I need your help.

On my way,I typed back instantly.

“We gotta go,” I said, startling everyone in the room.

“Why? What’s going on?” Sunny asked. B didn’t have to. He was already up and at attention.

“I don’t know. But Jaxson needs my help.”
