“Goddamn, she’s something else.” Devon shakes his head with a smile. “Let’s get this shit over with.”

BRIAR

The momentthey pull up the long driveway, I move into the back room and hide in the closet. I don’t want to be seen until they’re in the cabin, and I know my guys are right outside the door.

As much as I can defend myself, I’m not an idiot. There are too many unknown factors to be taking them on by myself. They could have a gun on them for protection, and knowing they’re running from the law, I would say that’s probably a given. Not to mention there are two of them and one of me. So, while I’m prepared to confront them, I’m also going to be smart about it.

There’s no service out here, but I know that they’ll be right behind my mother and her husband. I’ll give them a few minutes before making my presence known. If I have to, I can pretend to be Harris’ mistress, even if it makes me nauseous to even think about.

“This is the safe house?” I hear Kelly bitching the moment the cabin door opens.

“It’s better than a jail cell, Kelly,” Chad hisses at her. He’s right, it is better than going to jail. Or it would be if they weren’t about to be brutally executed.

“I’m not staying here for long,” she snaps.

“Good. Don’t,” Chad chortles, clearly ready to part ways with her. Can’t say I blame him for that. She seems to have such a winning personality.

I snort to myself before calling out. “Hello?” I ask, forcing fear into my voice that I don’t feel.

“What the hell is that?!” Kelly hisses, and I step out of the room, then stop in my tracks.

I throw my hands up the second I see the gun, acting terrified. “Oh my God!” I screech.

Chad tilts his head to the side, assessing me. “Who are you?” he asks, stepping closer to me.

“I—I’m Chloe,” I cry, making my body shake a little. “Matt told me to meet him here. Said we were going on a vacation.” The high pitch my voice has taken on is grating on my nerves, but I need to make sure I don’t get shot. That would be a bitch.

Chad barks out a laugh, shaking his head. “Leave it to Harris to bring a prostitute with him.” He lowers the gun to his side as I watch my guys step up to the door.

Oh, buddy. You have no idea the mistake you just made.

“You’re lowering your gun?!” Kelly growls under her breath. “How do you know she can be trusted?!”

“Look at her. The bitch has whore written all over her,” Chad waves the gun at me.

I have to hold back the annoyance at his remark. The only thing written all over me is violent killer. Too bad he’s too fucking stupid to see that.

Kelly looks me over, her gaze clearly finding me lacking. I guess when you’re only interested in children, a grown woman is easily bypassed. Better for me to kill the bitch. “I suppose you’re right. You’d know a hooker when you saw one, given your love of them.” She shrugs. “Maybe Harris will let you take her for a spin and slap her around.”

I gasp, putting on the act of a fucking lifetime, when all I really want to do is gut them, then strangle them with their own intestines.

“My Matt would never!” I cry, thankful the guys are quietly opening the door while holding their guns.

“You’re a new one, aren’t you, sweetie,” he says, using the name he did on Sophie and my rage builds. Playtime is definitely over. “Don’t worry. I’ll break you in before he gets here. After all, he’s much harsher than I am.” He smiles at me before grabbing his dick, and I’m fucking done.

“Yeah, that’s never going to happen,” Dev growls behind him, bringing the gun to Chad’s head.

“Excuse me?!” Kelly shrieks before Dylan plunges the needle into her neck. It takes less than a minute for her to drop to the floor.

“What the fuck is going on?!” Chad barks out, going to aim his gun, but Dylan’s hand is already there.

“Nice try, asshole,” he says quietly.

Devon makes quick work of taking the gun from his hold while Dylan plunges another needle into his neck.
