She felt betrayed.

How the fuck did I let that happen?!

Goddamnit! I swore I would never betray anyone the way our parents betrayed Cord and I, yet here I am.

I should have known to tell her the truth, but I had honestly forgotten about Creed’s dumb fucking mistake.

He’s Creed. We’re so used to his psychotic ways, it was just a blip on the radar to us…but not to her.

“FUCK!” I scream, pumping my arms faster as I run, trying to work through my emotions.

Out of all of us, I’m the least close with Haliee, but I still feel fucking responsible.

I like her. A lot.

She helped me the first day she met me, even though I didn’t like her, and she had no reason to do so aside from the kindness of her own heart.

She opened Corden up and let him begin healing, and I love her for that more than anything.

She’s healing our family one piece at a time, and I will always be grateful for her.

That doesn’t even account for her beauty and unfiltered strength. She’s been through some dark shit just like we have, but she’s never let the darkness claim her the way we did.

Where we became the monsters and demons we are, using it to help rid the world of fucking garbage, she’s remained a solid and pure light. Never letting the darkness overcome her.

I’m going to do whatever I have to in order to make her happy again.

Any. Fucking. Thing.

Mathias

“Holy shit,” Creed whispers, reading over the letters we found in Brent’s room.

He hid them well. If you weren’t actually looking for it, you’d never find the loose floorboard there.

“Yeah.” I swallow hard.

He hid this from her, from everyone, and it’s going to destroy her. It also may be the thing that puts her back together until we find him.

“She’s going to be pissed.” He lets out a humourless laugh, shaking his head, and I sigh.

“She’ll be furious,” I say in agreement. “But this will show her Brent chose this on his own.”

He nods, looking sad. “It will also give Ollie the proof he needs to stop blaming himself for what happened tonight. Brent did this on purpose to save Haliee. No one could have stopped it from happening.”

No one but her if she hadn’t run. I just hope she doesn’t blame herself, because this outcome was inevitable at some point.

Dimitri was threatening him for weeks.

He went unseen by everyone, and I have to wonder how, when we have cameras everywhere.

“Son of a bitch!” I curse, jumping up. “We need to get home.”

“What is it?” he asks as we get back in the car, letters in hand.

“Someone in town is helping him. There’s no way he would have gone unseen. Neither would those agents.”

“Fucking bitch,” he curses, punching the dashboard. “Should we open the letter to Haliee?”
