“She left because we lied?” he whispers, and I nod.

“She left because she felt betrayed,” I say, and he breaks.

“I need to go for a run.” He looks at me with broken eyes and I nod.

“Go. But watch your back. I don’t trust them to not be lingering around.” He gives me a sharp nod, taking off out the door.

“How did everything get so fucked, so fast?” Creed curses out loud.

“That’s what happens when you hold back the truth. We need to make it up to her,” Ollie whispers, pulling back.

“You have any ideas, Greed?” I ask, and he gives me a small, watery smile.

“Working on something…but number one is finding Brent.” He stands, kissing Creed gently before heading to the basement. “I’m going to be working on that. If anyone needs me, you know where I am.” Creed, Matt and I nod as he leaves.

“Anyone else have any other ideas?” I look to Creed and Matt, and they both shake their heads.

“I don’t know how this all went to shit so fucking fast. He had to have been watching her. How did we miss it?” Matt curses before standing straight. “We’re missing something. I’m going back to search the house. Creed, come with me. No one goes anywhere alone after tonight.”

“Good idea,” I say, and watch them leave the house.

Taking a deep breath, I head up the stairs to Luke’s room where Haliee is staying before gently knocking.

“Come in,” I hear him say quietly, walking in and seeing him wrapped around a sleeping Haliee.

“How is she?” I ask.

He swallows, shaking his head. “Not great, man.”

I nod, stepping closer and climbing into the bed on the other side of her.

“Creed and Matt went to the house to search it. Matt thinks we’re missing something.”

He just nods. “I agree,” he whispers.

I take a deep breath, my eyes resting on Haliee’s tortured features.

“Mind if I stay here with you guys? Barren is running off his demons right now.”

He just nods again in understanding as we fall into an emotional silence.
